350's are everywhere and parts are cheap. The 454 will have more power but is fairly expensive to modify by small block standards. I've always been partial to small blocks myself. I don't need to compensate, I don't race, and the small block puts out all the power I need.
Depends on your goals. A Big Block is going to make the numbers at a lower RPM, and therefore more suited to a low RPM daily driver.

I'd say if gas isn't an issue for you go with the big block. No replacement for displacement!
