Should a pedestrian stop in a crosswalk for an ambulance?

I was crossing the street tonight, and right when I was in the middle of the crosswalk, an ambulance came speeding up. I slowed down, and it stopped. I wasn't sure what to do and panicked a little. Their lights were bright, so I couldn't see driver and wanted to get out of the road, so I kept walking. I didn't know who had the right of way, and everything I found on the internet was regarding pedestrians that were on the curb should yield to emergency vehicles.

I'll usually wait if I hear it off in the distance. But if t does come barreling down while I'm already in the middle, then it's time to run mother ****er! In whichever direction makes more sense at the moment. The very last thing you want to do is just stand there. The cars will be pulling over the their right so you become the last bowling pin.

I'm in the UK so I'm not sure how it's done in the states but here; emergency vehicles will stop for pedestrians but as pedestrian you should stop for them and wave them through, they need to know that you have seen them and will stay out of the way before they can proceed.

Get out of the way. Emergency vehicles have right of way over pedestrians.

You can stop faster than the Ambulance if you are on foot!

Duh.

Get the heck out of the way for emergency vehicles.
