THE POWERBLOCK CONTINUES TIOGA’S WINNING TRADITION

After capturing a combined three Gold and one Silver at the UCI Supercross in Copenhagen and the BMX World Championship in Adelaide, Tioga riders get a clean sweep by taking the Elite Men’s Gold, Silver and Bronze at the UCI BMX Supercross in South Africa.

The winning for Tioga on the World stage started with the first UCI Supercross in Copenhagen, Denmark, where Tioga riders and National Dutch Team members Ivo van der Putten and Martijn Scherpen won the Elite Men’s Gold and Silver. The streak continued with Gold for Donny Robinson in Elite Men’s and Sam Willoughby in Junior Elite Men’s at the UCI BMX World Championship in Adelaide, Australia.

Now Tioga riders up the ante with a clean sweep, winning the Elite Men’s Gold, Silver and Bronze at the UCI BMX Supercross in South Africa.

Australia’s Sam Willoughby took the Gold, USA’s Donny Robinson got the Silver and Dutch rider Rob van den Wildenberg with the Bronze all crossing the finish line on Tioga PowerBlock tires.

Now on to Chula Vista, where Tioga riders on the PowerBlock will undoubtedly strive to keep the winning streak alive.

Rennen G-Cog SOFTWARE VERSION 1.3 Released

Rennen Design Group, developers of G-Cog, the ultimate BMX training tool, are pleased to announce that a new version of the G-Cog software, version 1.3, has been released.  This new version includes many changes and major enhancements to functionality.  Short descriptions of a few of these new features are below.

G-Cog main tab page – The starting point of the application.  For this release, we rearranged the software starting point a bit to make things easier to find and the software simpler and more efficient to work with.

New rider wobble chart that shows the side-to-side motion of your bike in degrees during your ride.  Rider wobble is a completely new calculation and chart that we planned from the beginning and have completed in version 1.3.

Ride settings panel-  The ride settings panel is a way for you to customize the software application to your bike setup.  In release 1.3 we added: rider height, rider inseam, crank length and rollout (which we calculate from your wheel diameter and gear ratio and display in the software).  These new additions will make training with G-Cog even more customizable and specific to the rider.

Rider Notes-  With G-Cog, each time you go out and do sprints or race, you record data.  After you download this data to the G-Cog software application, you can analyze the data and it is automatically stored on your computer so that you can compare your performance over time.  In release 1.3 we added the ride notes feature so that you can save information specific to your race or training session along with your performance data.

G-Cog is a revolutionary BMX training tool that enables you to measure Power, Torque, Speed, Acceleration, Distance, Rider Wobble and Reaction Time (Integrated speaker plays ABA, NBL/UCI cadence).  G-Cog will help you validate your training and give you confidence that you've put the work in.  Now it's time to let your results speak for themselves.

UCI BMX Chula Vista Registration

Registration now open for third round of 2009 UCI BMX Supercross World Cup in Chula Vista

Colorado Springs, Colo. (Aug 17, 2009) -- Registration for the third round of the 2009 UCI BMX Supercross World Cup event in Chula Vista, California on September 18-19 is now open.

All championship class riders with an active USA Cycling BMX license can register now by logging on to their “My USA Cycling” account.  Registration costs $165 and is open until 5:00 pm MST on September 9th. USA Cycling will be the only organization conducting the registration process and only pre registrations will be honored. No race day registration will be accepted on site. No exceptions.

The Chula Vista Supercross is open to all elite-level riders holding a USA Cycling BMX international license and riders must have been born from 1993 or earlier to be eligible to enter the race.

The third of four races on the international circuit, the Chula Vista event marks the third UCI Supercross World Cup event of the 2010 UCI BMX season. The final stop of the four race Supercross series concludes in Frejus, France on October 9-10.

The UCI BMX Supercross World Cup series offers crucial international ranking points that affect an athlete’s individual international ranking, and contribute to a nation’s ranking, which is the primary factor in determining the number of start positions a country receives at the 2012 Olympic Games. The Chula Vista contest is also the second race to be factored into the 2010 USA Cycling BMX Power Rankings which is one of the factors that will determine nominees to the U.S. BMX Olympic team in 2012.

King Of The Empire Pro/Am Series

The King of the Empire Pro/Am series has completed the 6th and final qualifying round in the series. Round 6 was hosted by Tri-City BMX in Rotterdam, NY.

It was some riders last chance to get the minimum of 3 qualifying races. For others it was a chance to better their score heading into the championship on Sept 19th.

With fifteen riders registered meaning that there would be semis to get into the main. It also meant that riders not in the main event would automatically be set up in the "BMX Underground No-Bull B-Main".

With rain on and off throughout the event meant treacherous track conditions. The slippery turns came up and bit several riders. A problem with the starting gate caused a re-run of the first semi and a heartbreaking crash that took out the Shoreham main winner Blaine Stottlar. The second semi went smoother and had Factory Rennen/Intense rider Max Egdorf, Nick Stodoloski, Matt Bonnett and Cody Buck making the A- Main. Joining them from semi 1 were 2 more Rennen/Intense riders Ross Wooding and Kelley Kelley as well as Sean Mabin and Justin Ledoux.

The B-Main had Stottlar, Ryan Nilsen, Josh Harvey, Sam Havranek, and Timmy Zimmel. With Scott Doland and Chris Aman getting DNS's. Stottlar got the holeshot and never looked back after a hard charge by Nilsen at the line. It was a small amount of redemption for Blaine and he at least won his $20 registration back for the day.

The gate went down in the main and it was Egdorf with the holeshot followed closely by Wooding, Stodolski and Kelley. Bonnett went down on the wet track while attempting a move for fouth in the second turn and took Ledoux and Buck with him. Sean Mabin cleared the carnage cleanly. The podium finishers were Egdorf, Wooding and Stodolski. With Kelley and Mabin rounding out the money positions.

We would like to thank the sponsors of race five: Avent, Bombshell, Rennen Design Group, and ODI Grips. We would also like to give a special thanks to Commissioner Jay Severson and the entire NYS BMX staff for all the work that you do for the state series. Thanks also goes out to track director Claudia Nilsen and the staff of Shoreham BMX. Without your hard work leading up the race, this never would have happened.

To date the series (6 qualifiers) has awarded over $2500.00 to it's riders. This money is raised by raffling off various products that our sponsors have been kind enough to donate. Also through rider registrations.

On a side note. I ANYBODY ever needs lottery tickets purchased. I suggest contactin Pam Dibiase. Her two sons, Patrick and Christian have won five frames (Staats, Anarchy, 2- Avents and a PK Ripper), a set of Bombshell 175mm crank arms and 2 Rennen chainwheels during this season. It's uncanny how lucky these two kids are.

The "King of the Empire" Championship race will be held on Sept. 19th at Tri-City BMX. Only qualified riders may race the Championship.

For more information, race results and point standings visit the King of the Empire website at www.kingoftheempire.com.

USA Cycling partners with Intense BMX to foster Junior Development Program

USA Cycling is excited to partner with Intense BMX to expand its efforts to develop America’s extensive pipeline of Bicycle Motocross (BMX) athletes. With a focus on the future, the national governing body has plans to increase its development initiatives, including the enhanced USA Cycling Junior Development Program (JDP) sponsored by Intense BMX.

As a partner in USA Cycling’s JDP, Intense BMX will provide crucial support for its series of quarterly junior development camps. Intense BMX will not only offer product support, along with products from SINZ Racing, Intense Tyres, and THE Products, but also on-site mechanical services and support for the more than a dozen 15-16 year-old campers who will be in attendance at each of four annual sessions. “We are excited to further give back to the sport of BMX and, in many different ways, assist the up-and-coming junior riders in BMX who are the future of our sport,” stated Pete Dylewski, marketing manager of VSI products, the parent company of Intense BMX.

This week USA Cycling will welcome 15 junior men and women to its third JDP instructional camp on the campus of the United States Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif. These athletes were invited by USA Cycling coaches based on several factors, including past results and future potential. The camp’s agenda will feature training sessions on the replica of the Beijing Olympic track, instructional clinics on nutrition, weight training and sports psychology, baseline physiological testing and Q&A sessions with professional BMX riders.

The camp, set for Aug. 24-30 will be the first in the 2010 series.

Complementing the guidance of USA Cycling BMX Programs Director and former world champion, Mike King, several additional coaches will provide direction and instruction to camp attendees. U.S. Challenge Class team manager Brian Fell, along with certified USA Cycling coaches and BMX experts Jerry Bradford and Jeff Glynn, will serve as volunteer coaches at the August camp. Pete Dylewski from Intense BMX will also be on site with the team support trailer offering assistance to the camp athletes.

Canadian Cycling Association Announces team for Chula Vista Training camp to be held on the Chula Vista SX BMX track on August 24th to 29th

The Canadian Cycling Association announced today a twelve-member team for the Chula Vista training camp. The camp is a continuation from the BMX talent ID camps held earlier in the spring. Testing results from the ID camps and well as National Championships were taken into consideration for selecting the roster. With all the talent in the country is a very difficult task to bring the list down to twelve athletes.

The Chula Vista camp is only the first camp of many to come. We have a lot of talented rider’s in this country and a lot of upcoming junior athletes as well. We plan to continue to create opportunities like this in the future so that we can bring more athletes to SX tracks.

WILLOUGHBY UPSTAGES WORLD CHAMP TO WIN BMX WORLD CUP

Mark Squire - Synergy Sports Marketing & Management - August 22, 2009

SOUTH AFRICA: Two time BMX World Junior Champion Sam Willoughby from Adelaide continued his impressive rise up the BMX ladder of success when he won Round 2 of the 2009 UCI BMX Supercross World Cup, presented by Swatch in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa on Saturday.

The current elite men’s World Champion and World No. 1, Donny Robinson from the USA placed second with Rob van den Wildenberg of the Netherlands rounding out the podium positions.

Willoughby made history by being the first rider to claim back-to-back Junior world titles only last month in front of his home crowd and did not disappoint again today by winning every heat plus his quarterfinal and semifinal.

In the final, 18 year old Willoughby started in the favoured inside lane, with Robinson on his left in lane two. Willoughby’s powerful start gave him the edge and this secured the all-important holeshot into the first turn.

With a bike-length gap opened up, Willoughby keep his lead into the technical third straight. Willoughby gave his signature one arm up salute across the finish line to claim his first Supercross World Cup win. “I’m really excited with this win! It’s the right end to a perfect day I guess,” said the charismatic Willoughby. “I had lane two in my first heat, but won that and held Lane 1 for the rest of the day which proved decisive.”

Robinson was full of praise for Willoughby but felt that the inside lane was undoubtedly a factor in the final result.

“Sam is improving all the time. He’s a real talent and so consistent. I would have loved to have had lane one for the final, but he made the most of it and he never made a single mistake. I planned to run at him in the third straight, but he was flawless through there."

Van den Wildenberg was thrilled with third place. “This is my first ever podium in a World Cup, so I’m very happy,” smiled the Dutchman. “I over-jumped the first jump which threw my rhythm out a bit and from there I just followed Donny’s line and held my position.”

In the elite women’s race it was a clean sweep for newly crowned World Champion, Sarah Walker from New Zealand. The 21 year old Olympian was a hot favourite after qualifying fastest on Friday but a hand injury during practice put her in doubt. Walker recovered enough to win comfortably ahead of Maria Gabriela Diaz from Argentina in second. French rider Eva Ailloud claimed third. The best placed Australian was Rachel Bracken who crashed in the final but rode across the line to place fifth.

An enthusiastic crowd watched the first elite BMX race of its kind in Africa which is a precursor to the 2010 UCI BMX World Championships, which will also be held in Pietermaritzburg next July.

2010 UCI BMX Permanent Career numbers assigned

UCI is pleased to announce the 2010 permanent career numbers for Elite Men and Elite Women. These numbers must be used at all international BMX events for the 2009-2010 season.

In 2006, the UCI introduced the permanent BMX number system for Elite Men and Elite Women. With this system, riders can choose a “career number”, which they have the exclusive right to use for their entire Elite class career. This will give riders a possibility to market themselves and to give media and spectators an easy way to identify riders.

This has proven to be very successful, where top athletes now have been established numbers. Riders like #77 Robert De Wilde (NED) and #365  Mike Day (USA) are certainly nowadays always easy identified with their numbers.

In addition, the number 1-8 is reserved for the finalists of the 2009 UCI BMX World Championships, where Donny Robinson (USA) will display the #1 on the back of the rainbow jersey, while Sarah Walker (NZL) will stick to her familiar # 96.

To view the complete list of permanent numbers, see link or attachment: http://www.uci.ch/templates/UCI/UCI1/layout.asp?MenuId=MTU0NTU&LangId=2

THE FREEAGENT/ROUTE55 "NEW FIRM" DOMINATE THE UK NATIONALS

The UK version of "The Firm" was formed after the past weekend of the UK Nationals in Manchester after sweeping the board in the 15-16 age category.

History was made on day 1 when all 4 of the riders on the Freeagent/Route55 team riders in the 15-16 age category made the final, taking all 3 podium places and a 5th place in the main - the first time a podium was taken by 3 riders all of the same team in a UK national. The race was won by Dominic Skidmore after only having been racing for a year and coming from mid pack in the first corner to take the win. Jack Hall, the Series points leader brought home the 2 spot followed by Grant Hill in 3rd, making his debut for the team. The youngest of the quartet, still only only 14, brought home agreat 5h place after being in 4th on turn 2 and getting pimped for 4th and stopping a clean sweep of the age group for the black and red machine.

Day 2 saw Hall come back strong to take the win and the overall series title despite this being his first year in the 15-16 group and there being 2 races left. A big achievement for what will be a big name in the furure. Skidmore backed up his win on day win to reverse positions with Hall from day 1 with Perry and Hill coming home for an extremely respectable 4th and 5th place. Pure dominance from what is now called "The New Firm" in the UK with many people commenting that each rider is looking hungry and confident in their riding - something quite daunting for the rest of the class and the Junior Men who will race 3 of the quartet in 2010.

The younger riders on the team were flying all weekend and both brought home some of their best results all season with Lewis Locker taking 5th place in the 8x category and Taylor Johnson bringing home a great ride for 4th. Watch these 2 pocket rockets for the back end of the UK season as they have been on a constant rise on their positions through the season.

The Old Warhorse, Lee Alexander had some hard crashes through the weekend but did the team proud by making both mains in the Masters category and taking 2nd in the tough 40+ cruiser. A real team player and one who all the guys on the team respect and look up to.

Kelvin Batey was back in Elite after a tough weekend a few weeks back after sustaining some bad injuries at the UK European Round. He came from 8th to 4th on day 1 after clipping out on the gate and came through with a good lap to finish 2nd on Sunday.

The FA/Route55 BMX Race Team are proudly sponsored by Tioga, THE, ODI, Sinz and The Source under the ever watchful eyes of ever present Team Managers Benn Thombes and Kelvin Batey.

Roger Rinderknecht fractured his arm during a training session / ends his season

Winterthur, Switzerland, August 14th – Roger Rinderknecht broke his arm during a training session at his local BMX course. The number 3 of the current UCI Mountain Bike 4X World Cup ranking is now prevented from riding for about six weeks.

On Tuesday, August 11th, Roger performed his daily training at his nearby BMX track in Winterthur: “In my last run of the day, I overshot the first double at the pro-section and pedaled as hard as I could to make it over the next double, which is the biggest of the course. At top speed I slipped out of the click pedal right before the big double. I managed to jump, but got a quite bad spin and crashed hard into the landing”.

The left upper arm broke immediately. Roger got surgery the next day: a marrow nail was implemented and fixed with four screws. Roger will keep the nail for the next season and get rid of it at the beginning of the winter break 2010. According to the doctors, there will be no physical restraints because of the nail and Roger will be back at 100 percent of his riding performance soon.

The Swiss GT team rider is already on the best way. He did fine at his first physiotherapy session and he can’t wait to be back on his bike soon. But first of all he is looking forward to come back home to his family.

BMX AUSTRALIA HIGH PERFORMANCE PROGRAM
ELITE DEVELOPMENT SQUAD - APRIL - JULY, 2009 REPORT

Introduction

Cycling Australia’s Elite Development Squad consists of five riders who train and compete under the guidance of High Performance Coach and former BMX professional, Wade Bootes.

The riders are:

  • Rachel Bracken (30.06.1991 Aitkenvale, QLD);

  • Caroline Buchanan (24.10.1990 Kambah, ACT;

  • Josh Callan (08.04.1991 Healesville VIC);

  • Lauren Reynolds (25.06.1991 Clifton Park, WA),

  • Sam Willoughby (15.08.1991 Trott Park, SA).

The squad is focused on development as the riders step up from junior ranks.

The highlight of the past four months has been the UCI BMX World Championships which were held in Adelaide between 20 – 26 July.

Squad member Sam Willoughby became the first elite junior male to win back to back world titles, successfully defending his 2008 championship.

Coach Wade Bootes would like to provide team sponsors with his perspective on the performance of riders at the 2009 UCI BMX World Championships:

“I am pleased to report that Australia had the equal most riders to qualify to finals and the equal second most medals from all of the nations that competed in the Elite classes at the 2009 BMX World Championships.

High Performance National Team Results

Podium:  Two of 11 riders

  • Sam Willoughby – Perfect Laps all weekend and back to back titles.  Fastest lap of all men.

  • Anthony Dean – Great result for Anthony, being part of the team inspired and encouraged Anthony to perform to his best.

Finalist:  Seven of 11 riders.

  • Luke Madill – Luke’s best performance internationally to date, his years of racing experienced helped him weave his way to the final.

  • Khalen Young – A great comeback for Khalen who really embraced the new team dynamics, his skills and talent of being a true racer pushed his way to the final.

  • Michael Chasteauneuf – Again Chasty steps up for big races, but due to a crash in final by clipping another rider through the pro section cost him a top four  spot in the final.  Once Michael finishes his apprenticeship, he will be able to focus on racing internationally more.

  • Rachel Bracken – Rachel has developed so much in the past six months and is a true player in the women’s field, once Rachel believes that she is a good as the others, Rachel will step up to another level again.  Placed 7th fastest lap of all women.  Rachel is planning to relocate closer to the QAS in Brisbane and Gold Coast.

  • Lauren Reynolds – Outstanding riding all weekend, with just a little bad luck in the final, a little over excited when coming into big finals with a home crowd caused Lauren to forget about the process of winning the race.  Lauren came up short on the first double which did not allow her to get to jump the big double, put her in 2nd or 3rd positioning in first corner and ended up sliding out, giving her 8th place on the day.  Placed 6th fastest lap of all women.

Quarters: Nine of 11 riders

  • Josh Callan – Looked good during the day after being sick the week before after returning home from USA, Crashed in Ľ not his fault while in qualifying position.  Placed the 5th fastest lap of all men in his 1/8th final.  Once Josh finishes School this year, he will have more time to focus on racing.

  • Brian Kirkham – Four weeks since Surgery and a massive crash in practice that was not his fault, Brian made it to the Ľ’s.  When healthy, Brian will have great potential by gaining more international racing experience.  Brian is considering his options of work and racing.

Eighths: 10 of 11 riders

  • Billy Jollife – Some great laps and was taken out in 1/8’s down the start ramp.  Billy requires more National and International consistency.

  • Matt Willoughby – Matt did not transfer out of Moto’s due to shoe malfunction in last moto.   Matt requires more National and International consistency.

Stats:

Finalist: USA – 8, AUST – 8, FRA – 3, NED – 2, NZL – 2, COL – 2, ARG – 2, NOR – 1, CZE – 1, LAT – 1, CAN – 2.

Podium: USA – 3, AUST – 2,  NED – 2, NZ – 1, COL – 1, FRA, -1, ARG – 1, NOR – 1.”

hot rod industry race In Louisville

ejection seat

By problemchildkustoms.com

Tim and Carrie Strange are not only good friends and clients, but dedicated BMX racers, and when you combine their love for cars and BMX racing, well, things are gonna get a little wild.

They organized the Hot Rod Industry BMX Challenge to coincide with this year's Louisville Street Rod Nationals, and hauled Resilience and a few bikes to Virginia for what turned out to be a great time.

Guys like Jesse Greening, Dave Tucci, Roger Burman, D.W. from Welder Series (hello, eh!) and our pal Scott from Billet Specialties joined the action with employees from hot rod shops all over the region, as well as top companies like Vintage Air, Art Morrison, Classic Instruments (the guys who built our gauge pod in the Buick!), California Car Cover and more!

It was a veritable who's-who of the industry, and the action pitted past Trendsetters against Monster Garage builders, former Hot Rod TV, Overhaulin' and Rides personalities against Ridler and AMBR builders.

Simply awesome, and a unique way to not only get everyone back in touch with an activity many of us enjoyed in our youth, but a great exercise in weeding out the not-so-in-shape fellas.

As Tim puts it, "We also ways try to merge our two lives...BMX and hot rods. That's why we started the BMX team through the shop, to try to help some kids and get them to some races, or have a fun place to hang at the races.

I remember how excited I was as a young rider when I got asked to be on a team...it makes ya feel good when we see our riders, even getting Senior year pics taken in our jerseys!

We also are always trying to help the sport of BMX grow, and we thought this was a fun way to possibly get some past riders back into it, and to get some exposure in different markets, and maybe bring in some outside sponsors to BMX.

You don't know till ya try, and talking don't do much..."

King Of The Empire Pro/Am Round 5

The King of the Empire Pro/Am series has completed round 5 of 6 at Shoreham BMX in Shoreham, NY.

Some riders looking to knock off a bad score were on hand at Shoreham BMX for the next to last qualifier in the King of the Empire Series. Low rider count did not cool off the hot competition on the track with 6 of the fastest riders in the state on hand.

Once again the hot rider in the motos was Matt Bonnett scoring a perfect in the qualifying rounds. Joining him in the main event were: Blaine Stottlar, Factory Rennen/Intense rider Kelley Kelley, Sean Mabin, Scott Doland, and Ryan Nilsen.

With everyone loaded in the gate for the main the obvious favorite was Bonnett or Stottlar, who has been flying on the track this year. The gate went down and it was Stottlar with the holeshot with Kelley, Mabin and Bonnett in tow through the first turn. Bonnett passed Mabin on the exit of turn 3 and took off after Kelley down the back straight. Stottlar, in the meantime was enjoying a comfortable lead heading into the last straight and crossed the line with the win. Kelley held off a hard charge by Bonnett in the rhythm section to take second with Matt filling out the podium finishers.

At the conclusion of round 5 there are currently eight riders that qualify for the championship race and year end awards. There are 5 riders that must race the last round at Tri-City in order to qualify. Amateurs need to keep in mind in order to race the pro/am championship you MUST also qualify for the NYS championship race meeting all of their requirements.

We would like to thank the sponsors of race five: SE Racing, Hyper Bikes, ODI Grips, Rennen Design Group,  www.bmxunderground.com & Johnson Racing plates.

We would also like to give a special thanks to Commissioner Jay Severson and the entire NYS BMX staff for all the work that you do for the state series. Thanks also goes out to Betty and Bruce Mulligan and the staff of Shoreham BMX.

VRP/Bike Alley/ Vitamin Water is in the Zone in Tucson…the fun zone that is.

The team had a blast in the fun zone inside the convention center which included basketball, air hockey, pool, foosball and video games just to mention a few of the activities provided. This was a great idea provided by the ABA!

The team also found some time to do a little racing. If you haven't seen the new ABA BMXer yet, check it out! Jordan Nopens is featured on the front cover sporting her number one national title number plate. So what did Jordan do, do what she does best win, win and win some more. She doubled in open and class over the weekend adding to her win total for the season. Way to go Jordan on your way to battling for the National title again in 2009.

From there we go to EJ Pasowicz who is starting to roll and gain momentum as the season moves along. The 10x class was loaded with some of the top nag riders including the 2009 World Champ Richard Holec. Congrat's to Richard Holec for a well deserved victory at the 2009 Worlds in Australia. Saturday EJ grabbed a solid 3rd in cruiser and followed it up with a 2nd in class where Anthony Bacardo and EJ battled for the top two spots. This was followed up with a 2nd in cruiser on Sunday and a 3rd in class behind Anthony Bacardo and Richard Holec who got the win and proved why he is the World Champ.

Kyle Fernandez had a stacked class and when it was all said and done he proved why they call him "The Conquistador". He was on a mission slamming into turns and powering his way through the competition. Kyle finished with a 3rd in cruiser on Saturday and after some intense bar banging spoke snapping battles Kyle grabbed a 2nd in class passing Alex Jones at the finish line. On Sunday "The Conquistador" was back on a quest grabbing a 2nd in cruiser and a 3rd in class behind Alex Jones and DJ Stephen…not a bad duo to follow.

This takes us to Dani George who was fresh off her wins in Utah. She starting the weekend off strong winning Friday nights USAC JR Development race to take the lead in points. She followed that up with a 2nd on Saturday and a 4th on Sunday giving her a solid finish for the weekend. Great job Dani and keep up the hard work!

Then we go to the brother sister tandem of Matt and Megan Chism. Megan was ready to battle this weekend finishing with a 3rd on Saturday and a 5th on Sunday helping her move back into the top 10 Nag standings. Matt fought and battled hard all weekend making his semis both days but finishing one rider short of the main. Keep up the hard work Matt…we still give you a 1st for style.

Great job team and keep up the good work!

FRIDAY CHALLENGE FOTOS FROM THE UCI WORLDS POSTED ON BMX MANIA!

King Of The Empire Pro/Am Round 4

The King of the Empire Pro/Am series has completed round 4 at New Paltz BMX in New Paltz, NY.

The NY area was inundated with rain for days prior to the event. But with clear skies in the forecast for race day, Jerry Patterson and the staff of New Paltz BMX worked tirelessly and had the track in race condition after a short delay to the scheduled start time.

The recent rains were blamed for a small turnout for the open with only 11 riders registering. But that didn't diminish the competition on the track. Once again all the motos were scrambled and with random gate assignments kept everyone but the front runners wondering if they were going to make the cut.

The hot riders in the motos were Rennen/Intense riders Pat Parker and Ross Wooding and Kingston Point BMX rider Matt Bonnett. Each one heading into the main with two moto wins apiece. The main was set after the third round and found Parker, Bonnett & Wooding joined by Cody Buck, Ryan Nilsen, Justin Ledoux, Sean Mabin and Rich Nelson.

The gate dropped and Parker and Wooding pulled the field down the first straight from gate 8 and 7 respectively. Emerging from the pack in third was Bonnett with a low entry into the first turn. Bonnett's front wheel clipped Wooding's rear wheel sending Bonnett across the track, up the turn and into a billboard. The rest of the field cleared the carnage cleanly and took off down the second straight. With all the battling for position in the pack Parker and Wooding checked out on the field. The final results was Parker, Wooding, Nelson, Ledoux, Buck, Mabin, Nilsen and Bonnett.

There were no photographers around to capture any of the action. But Crazy Al Cayne was on hand with his trusty video camera. I also managed to tape the main (up until Matt hit the wall) I was laughing too hard to continue taping. Hey, he's my son, I can laugh if I want.

The video footage is located at: http://www.cac-tv.com/2009/08/king-of-the-empire-bmx-pro-am/ and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a34PCh1ceb8

We would like to thank the sponsors of race four: Intense BMXSun rims, Fly Racing products, ODI Grips, Ciari parts, Rennen Design Group,  www.bmxunderground.com & Johnson Racing plates.

We would also like to give a special thanks to the entire NYS BMX staff especially Commissioner Jay Severson. Thanks also goes out to Jerry Patterson and the staff of New Paltz BMX.

Round 5 will be held at Shoreham BMX in Shoreham, NY on August 8th.

Supercross Racerhead FL Stem

The new Racerhead FL came to be by a round table discussion in the shop one night. Kris and Mikey ride park and trails as much as they ride the race tracks and wanted a cool front load stem to slap on to their new Passion frames.

So we sat down sketched something up, took it to the machine shop and made a sample, it was close, but we wanted it to be a little sleeker, and a little lighter, so we refined it down three more times to get what we wanted. Then we slapped them onto Kris and Mikey's personal trail bikes and let them have at it. After a few months of testing and making sure it was what they wanted we put it into production and what you see today is the final result.

A superlight 9 ounce piece of carved and whittled 6061 Aluminum billet. ( 9 ounces includes all 6 Grade 8 Allen Bolts )

The Racerhead FL is available in 2 sizes the 53mm ( 9.0 ounces ) and soon a 48mm for the smaller riders that will be even lighter.

Available in Black, Red, Teal and Purple for $59.95 at your favorite local Supercross BMX dealer.

BMX Summercamp In Denmark!

From Friday the 31st July until Sunday 2nd august, 160 BMX riders in all ages enjoyed the fantastic coaching from Thomas Allier, Denis Labigang, Jan Baltzersen, Henrik Baltzersen and 9 other coaches at the amazing BMX facility in Sallingsund, Denmark.

The riders were grouped in 10 groups, according to age and skills, and each group had a coach appointed. The four head coaches circulated among the groups, giving inspiration and technical advices, how to improve your technical skills. Each group had 8 lessons over the weekend, including things like gatestarts with time measuring, jumps, manualing, trails, foam pit, bunny jump, rhythm section, turns, and fighting the corners. After the ordinary lessons, a race was arranged every day, starting out with the groups (two full gates). Three motos were completed and on day one the best two moved up to next group and last two moved down. On day two, one moved up and one down. The result was a very exiting race on Sunday, where the riders were very even, despite of age and sex.

The parents behind Sallingsund BMX Club (www.bmx.dk) offered a package solution for riders and family, including food and camping, so that parents and other relatives could enjoy the activity, without having to bother about food and others. The estimated numbers of persons in total, reached approx. 400 at the camp. The result was one big BMX family with the same interest and with an amazingly positive approach to the sport of BMX.

On arrival Thomas Allier and Denis Labigang, were a little overwhelmed with the big number of participants, but everything turned out smoothly and nice, and after the weekend both were certainly positive impressed of the camp. Riders learned a lot, and the 9 extra coaches got a lot of inspiration to the continued work at their own clubs.

The success has inspired the organisation behind the camp, to try to bring the event a level higher next year, by inviting riders from other countries to participate. Increasing the number of participants, means that the camp will be made over a longer period, but with other activities included. Could be things like windsurfing, sailing, carting or just doing “normal” tourist excursions. Kind of family event, even for family members that doesn’t see BMX as the one and only ;-).

Nothing for sure yet, but the idea is born. - René Skjold

BMX gets go-ahead in San Lorenzo, California

Reprinted from the Oakland Tribune and written by Jason Sweeney

SAN LORENZO — After three years of planning and effort, the final hurdle was cleared Tuesday night for construction of a bicycle motocross, or BMX, track.

The school board unanimously approved a five-year lease that will allow for a half-acre BMX practice track to be built in the fields behind the San Lorenzo Adult School, 820 Bockman Road.

For the past three years, BMX riders and their parents have been working with the office of county Supervisor Alice Lai-Bitker, the Hayward Area Parks and Recreation District and the school district to bring a track to the area. Local BMX riders currently have to travel to tracks as far away as Santa Clara or Livermore.

The unused fields behind the adult school were identified as an appropriate location, but residents of nearby Skywest Townhomes objected to the project at community meetings, voicing concerns that the track would bring noise, graffiti and crime to the area and would become an eyesore.

An agreement that the park district approved earlier this year addressed those concerns, said Larry Lepore, superintendent for the district.

Among the conditions, the track will be used only on Saturdays and two weekdays per week, with adult supervision required, according to the agreement. Also, a buffer of trees will be planted between the track and the townhomes.

The track will operate similar to a Little League baseball field, with the National Bicycle League responsible for construction and operations, the agreement says.

At Tuesday night's meeting, three people spoke in favor of the track, including Life Goes on Foundation founder Arthur Renowitzky of San Lorenzo, who was paralyzed after being shot during a robbery. Renowitzky told the board that the track would offer local youth a positive outlet for recreation, and expressed the desire for a hand-cycling track for children who use wheelchairs.

Unlike previous meetings about the track, no one spoke in opposition.

School district trustee Norm Fobert said the fields behind the San Lorenzo Adult School have gone largely unused since the school was converted from an elementary school.

"It was our opportunity to share our facilities with the community," he said.

Mike's Bikes Forges Hot New Racing Alliance!

Mikes Bikes Racing is proud to announce that it has forged an alliance with one of BMX racing’s biggest names SUPERCROSS! Mikes Bikes Racing will bring its strong and talented Midwest based team to the SUPERCROSS family uniting in what will be simply put, Incredible!

Congratulations to Bill Ryan on his 20th anniversary with SUPERCROSS. Words cannot describe the excitement that we all share in bringing these two families together under one banner. You may have seen a couple of our riders tearing up the track on Bill’s newest master piece, the SUPERCROSS "ENVY", at the ABA Land O’Lakes national in MN. As our riders took hot laps on the Green Machine they quickly realized that this frame is the real deal.

The SUPERCROSS ENVY is the next variation of their World Famous Supercross EVO Race Frames. It is incredibly clear that they are continuing to push the edge of the Aluminum Race Frame technology. The new SUPERCORSS BMX ENVY race frame has roots that run so deep others would kill for its pedigree. Hand built from custom spec’ed Easton ultra light taper wall tube set, while maintaining the World Championship, ABA and NBL Pro Title winning full race geometry you end up with a Pro size race frame that tips the scales at a scant 2.75lbs.

With this newest frame added into the SUPERCROSS arsenal it makes the line a perfect fit for our family of riders. Our Mike's Bikes National Roster Includes: Elliot McGrath, Trenton Duval, Cody Freels, Taylor Riedemann, Zach Tossett, Austin Walden, Logan Grace, Cory Caliendo, Krista Bernick, Kate Larson, Christina Riedemann, Chey Ballard, Gunner Gaudette, Dylan Riedemann, Jet Gaudette, Jordan Gross, Brad Stover, Keller Crotty, Jesse & Jamie Sathre, Jordan & Loren Scheifert, Orion Newark, Austin & Carson Edwards, Chris Ohara, and Kevin & Anna Moore.

Mikes Bikes Racing & SUPERCROSS invite you to join us at tracks across the country. Just remember to bring a good camera as it just may be the only way you can slow our teams riders down enough to get a good look that will surely turn you Green with “ENVY”.

Make sure to stop by the Store and Team pits at the ABA’s Mile High Nationals, The Redline Cup Central Finals, and “The greatest race on earth – The 2009 ABA Grand’s.

UCI BMX World Championships...Long-awaited gold for Robinson

Union Cycliste Internationale, Communication Services

Donny Robinson, Juniors champion in 2001, probably never thought he’d have to wait eight years to find himself on the top step of the World Championship podium. The American rider’s victory on Adelaide’s covered track represents the pinnacle of one of the finest careers of any BMX specialist. He took bronze at the Beijing Games and won the 2008 UCI Supercross World Cup.

Saturday proved an excellent day for the United States team, with a second place for Mike Day, who repeated his magnificent Olympic performance.

Maris Strombergs, who was favored to win after dominating last season’s major competitions, had to settle for fourth place. He was beaten to third place by Ramiro Marino of Argentina, after committing a tactical error at the first corner of the 310-metre track inside Adelaide’s Showground complex.

No surprises in the women’s event

There were no surprises in the women’s event, however. Sarah Walker of New Zealand, who came third in Taiyuan behind Shanaze Read and Anne-Caroline Chausson – neither of whom were present in Australia – beat Eva Allioud of France and Arielle Martin of the United States by a comfortable margin.

Willoughby plays to the crowd

The Adelaide crowds, out in force as always, went wild over the achievements of Sam Willoughby, who made World Championship history by winning a second consecutive gold medal in the Juniors category. The talented young local rider beat Norway’s Andre Fossa Aquiluz and another Australian, Anthony Dean, demonstrating his enormous potential. He could soon find himself competing in the Elite category, possibly as early as next year.

Victory for Latin America

BMX being a very popular discipline in Latin America, the Juniors category victory of Columbia’s Mariana Pajon, a finalist in 2008, came as no surprise. The win over Dutch riders Merle van Benthem and Maartje Hereijgers will no doubt serve as a springboard for the future career of the eighteen-year-old Pajon.

Until such time as we see these names again alongside those of Robinson, Walker, and all the other champions of a discipline that continues to excite with its unique intensity, the Adelaide World Championships undeniably represent a new step forward in the worldwide development of BMX.

Cruiser

Finally, in the Cruiser class events, Walker and Pajon repeated their victories, while France and the Netherlands took their only gold medals of the week with Joris Daudet in the Juniors and Ivo van der Putten, who won the first leg of the 2009 UCI Supercross in Copenhagen.

HAYWARD NON-PROFIT SEEKS APPROVAL FROM SCHOOL BOARD

TO BUILD BMX TRACK FOR KIDS AND A HAND CYCLING TRACK FOR

CHILDREN & ADULTS LIVING IN WHEELCHAIRS

Hayward, CA - Please support Hayward’s Life Goes on Foundation (LGO) on Tuesday, August 4th, at 7:30pm at 15510 Usher St, San Lorenzo, CA 94580 while the non-profit attends San Lorenzo’s  School Board meeting to seek approval for an afternoon program designed to benefit children and those living in wheelchairs.

LGO needs citizen support to persuade the school board to pass the measure for LGO to begin staffing and operating an after school program which will offer free use of a both a BMX track for kids & a hand cycle program for the disabled peoples of the county.

The concept already passed through H.A.R.D (Hayward Area Recreation Department). The school board’s approval is the final piece of the approval process to initiate the program. LGO estimates hundreds of children and adults will benefit from its proposed initiative.

“It is crucial that people in wheel chairs, like me, have an opportunity to enjoy outdoor recreation sports such as hand cycling”, said Arthur Renowitzky, founder of Life Goes on Foundation. “This proposed after school program of  a BMX bike track combined with hand cycling tracks will provide able & disabled people of Hayward a great opportunity to get outside and enjoy fun & exercise,” added Renowitzky.  “I am hopeful the community & local media will attend the board meeting and show their support along side with LGO and H.A.R.D for this exciting program.”

Intense/Phantom/On-Trac Dominates Worlds in Adelaide, Australia...Wins Trade Team

Going to Australia posed the trip of a lifetime for many of our young riders. And for their parents, too, at least the ones that could go! The rest of us were watching twitter, reading www.vintagebmx.com or eventually www.freecaster.com in the wee hours of the morning. The chance to compete against the worlds best riders just sweetened the trip that much more. And anyone who has traveled the world will tell you, it is hard to find a place more welcoming and accommodating than down-under.

The USA racked up a hefty total number of wins, titles and trophies. The USA racked up 19 Gold medals, 7 Silver medals and 11 Bronze for a huge total of 37 medals, second only to the hosts, Australia! It was perhaps the most dominant performance ever by a USA team. With so many great performances, Team USA won the overall National competition ahead of the Netherlands and Aruba. Kudos to the riders, the coaches and Mike King!

A lot of that hardware came from our yellow-dressed riders! It is with great joy and pride that we congratulate several new World Champions and medalists from the team.

Kristen Long was attending her first world championship and boy did she make it count. Kristen won her 13 Girls class in convincing fashion and is now World Champion! She was overheard telling dad, I guess now we HAVE to go to South Africa so I can defend my # 1!

Felicia Stancil is likely the most promising female rider in the US in her class and if there was ever any doubt before, there shouldnt be now! Felicia not only wins her 14 Girls class but also wins 13/14 Girls Cruiser and double-doubles at the World Championships making life simple when it comes to number plates! She is stronger and more skilled than many Elite Women at only 14 years of age.

Taylor Wolcott competed in a tough 16 Girls class and took 3rd for a Bronze medal to USA teammate and Gold Medalist Brooke Crain. Taylor And Brooke are two of the most talented and promising up-and-coming Junior Women in the USA right now.

Wyatt Bell put together a great showing for the competition taking home a Silver medal in 7 Boys.

Ethan E-Dogg Wolthers was the defending World Champion coming into this race and he proved how he got it last year by destroying his class again this year. E-Dogg takes the 8 Boys class successfully defending his title.

Another defending World Champion on the squad was Brock Heffron. Brock had another dominating year at the Worlds not only taking first in 12 Boys but following that up with winning 11/12 Boys Cruiser for a World Class double-double!

Cole Tesar put a string of exceptional laps together throughout the competition and killed it in the main event winning the 13 Boys class by several bike lengths, taking a World Champion title home to momma Josette! No doubt he wont have to clean his room for a while J

15 Boys was never in question with Rusty Nesvig proving he is the fastest 15 year old on the planet. Rusty takes home the skinny digit home to The Godfather and Mom Chris as the new World Champion in that class.

And saving the best for last, Nic Long, has truly arrived on the Elite stage. Nic has been winning and podiuming all year long in his first Elite season. In his first World Championships, Nic not only makes his main, he also takes 5th behind USA teammates silver medalist Mike Day and Gold Medalist Donny Robinson. Nic ends the season ranked # 3 in the world for Elite men. A great rookie year in that class. Congratulations Nic we are really proud of you. Rumor has it a new car is in his future

With all these amazing performances, it is no wonder that Intense/Phantom/On-Trac easily took the Trade Team victory ahead of Redman New Zealand/J & R Bicycles and Redman Bikes. Now back to the USA and the challenge of defending the ABA Factory Team Title in November in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the Greatest Race On Earth www.ababmx.com .
