U.S. sweeps top podium spots at the 2014 North American Continental BMX Championships

Chula Vista, Calif. (March 30, 2014) From USA Cycling — Supercross racing continued at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif., on Sunday with the 2014 UCI North American Continental BMX Championships. Americans Connor Fields (Henderson, Nev./Chase BMX), Alise Post (Saint Cloud, Minn./Redline Bicycles) and Shealen Reno (Plano, Texas/Hyper Bicycles) doubled up on the wins after their victories at the Elite BMX Nationals the day before. Sean Gaian (Santee, Calif./Factory GT Bicycles) topped the junior elite men’s event.

Junior Elite Men’s Race

Paired together in all three of their motos, Gaian finished second to yesterday’s junior elite men’s national champion Collin Hudson (Longmont, Colo./Redline Bicycles) each time. But in the main it was Gaian who won when it most counted. Coming from third position, he made his move on the inside of Hudson on the final turn. The 2013 junior supercross world champ accelerated to the line to take the win. Hudson followed, with Alden Volle (Penryn, Calif./Dan’s Comp) riding to third.

Women’s Races

The elite women’s motos saw Post, Felicia Stancil (Lake Villa, IL/Factory GT Bicycles) and Dani George (Palmdale, Calif./SupercrossBMX.com) each win two of their three heats. In the main, the first turn proved to be the decisive spot on the track. Post led the pack out of the gate, with Brooke Crain (Visalia, Calif./Haro Bicycles) battling Stancil for the second spot. Crain took the edge coming into the second straight, and followed Post to the line.

Shealen Reno (Plano, Texas/Hyper Bicycles) finished fifth among the elite women, but topped Mexico’s Jhoanna Hernandez in the junior elite women’s competition.

Elite Men’s Race

Fields, the newly-minted elite men’s national champ, won all three of his motos to advance to the semifinals. Also looking tough to beat early on was Canadian Tory Nyhaug (Coquitlam, BC, Canada/Redline Bicycles), who won each of his motos, as well. The two riders then topped their respective semis to head to the finals.

Unlike in yesterday’s nationals main, Fields didn’t have to come from behind for his win. He took the lead down the first straight and held it through the finish line. Jared Garcia (Victorville, Calif./SupercrossBMX.com) slotted himself in the second spot behind Fields around the first turn and was able to hold off Nyhaug to secure the runner-up position, with Nyhaug taking third.

Supercross racing will pick up again in a few weeks, when riders will contest the first UCI Supercross World Cup of the season April 18-19 in Manchester, England.

Caroline Buchanan Launches Aggressive BMX Season And Killer Video Series!

"Dominating at the highest point is my goal for 2014!" Pretty big words for a racer to use when describing their goals for an upcoming season, but when your name is Caroline Buchanan and you've just come off of a year where you won two UCI World Cycling Championships...Well maybe it's not unrealistic.

Regardless of how her year actually turns out, Caroline has for sure launched one of the most well done video series in BMX, and probably two or three other cycling disciplines in her 'BUCHANAN On Air' video series that she has planned for 2014. If she's as successful in her quest for BMX championships as she is in this video, it's going to an incredible year!

'BUCHANAN On Air' is definitely BMX Mania Approved!

Chula Vista, Calif. (March 29, 2014) — Four Stars-and-Stripes jerseys were awarded Saturday at the 2014 USA Cycling Elite BMX National Championships, held at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif. Connor Fields (Henderson, Nev./Chase BMX) and Alise Post (Saint Cloud, Minn./Redline Bicycles) each earned elite victories, while Collin Hudson (Longmont, Colo./Redline Bicycles) and Shealen Reno (Plano, Texas/Hyper Bicycles) claimed the junior elite titles.

Junior Elite Men

Competition got underway on the Beijing track, a replica of the supercross track used at the 2008 Olympic Games, with the junior elite men’s motos. Hudson and 2013 junior supercross world champ Sean Gaian (Santee, Calif./Factory GT Bicycles) each won two out of three to cement their spot in the final. Cole Tesar (Huntersville, N.C./ FBN Plastics/C-yaa Frames/Monster Army/Profile) also picked up a win in the motos.

Hudson and Gaian were off the front early in the junior men’s main, with Gaian taking the lead through the first turn. But Hudson accelerated to come into turn two slightly ahead of Gaian, who came into contact with Hudson’s rear wheel about halfway around the turn. This sent Gaian to the ground, giving Hudson, a five-time amateur world champion, a clear path to victory. He was followed to the line by Tesar. Josh Banuelos (Medford, Ore./Phoenix Factory Racing) crossed in third.

Women’s Races

With only seven riders putting a wheel to the line, the elite women’s national championship was decided based on points over three rounds. Post was the fastest out of the gate in the first two trips down the supercross track to be the clear favorite heading into the final race. But it was two-time junior time trial and supercross world champion Felicia Stancil (Lake Villa, IL/Factory GT Bicycles) who took an early lead in the final. She was followed by 2012 Olympian Brooke Crain (Visalia, Calif./Haro Bicycles) and then Post.

The three maintained that order through the race, and the third-place finish was enough to give Post her fourth consecutive elite women’s Stars-and-Stripes jersey. Stancil’s win in that final round propelled her to the second spot on the podium ahead of Crain.

Though she raced with the elite women, Shealen Reno (Plano, Texas/Hyper Bicycles) was the only rider in the junior elite category, giving her a second championship in as many years.

Elite Men

The elite men’s motos included twenty riders vying for a national championship. Fields won all three of his motos to advance to the semifinals. With defending champion Nic Long (Lakeside, Calif./Haro Bikes) crossing the line first in two of his. The two riders finished second and third, respectively, behind Corben Sharrah (Tucson, Ariz./Haro) in their semifinal heat to move on to the main. 2012 Olympian David Herman (Wheat Ridge, Colo./ Free Agent/Rockstar) won the other semi.

In the final heat, a slow start put Fields toward the back of the pack through the first straight, with Herman taking the hole shot. But Steven Cisar (Altadena, Calif./Avent Bombshell) came around him on the first turn to take the lead. He was followed close behind by Barry Nobles (Sun City, Calif./DK Bicycles) into the second turn and down the third straight.

Nobles moved to pass Cisar in the final turn, pressing both riders to the outside. That gave Fields, who had moved into third, an inside lane. The 2013 elite men’s time trial world champion used that space to his advantage and took the lead down the finishing straight to reclaim the elite men’s national title that he won in 2012. Nobles placed second and Cisar edged Jared Garcia (Victorville, Calif./SupercrossBMX.com) for third.

Racing continues tomorrow with the 2014 UCI North American Continental BMX Championships, where international riders will go head to head with the best of the U.S. The competition begins at 11 a.m. Pacific time with qualifying motos. The semifinal heats are expected to begin around 12:20 p.m. and the mains should get underway at 12:45 p.m.

Admission and parking at the Olympic Training Center is free. Attendees can park in the Visitor Center parking lot and follow the signage to walk to the Beijing supercross track.

Chase BMX USA BMX Race Report - Oldsmar, Florida

Round #2 of the 2014 USA BMX Pro National Tour took place at one of the best tracks in the USA, Oldsmar BMX. The beautifully sculpted track was only outdone by the perfect Florida weather that welcomed the 70 plus Elite Pro riders to the Sunshine State.

This was the first race weekend of the 2014 season for the Chase Bicycles Factory team of Connor Fields and Joris Daudet. Premiering the new new team Fly racing uniforms, the Pro team, along with the Dale Holmes Racing squad and the Pro Support team riders of Jamie Staff, Sifiso Nhlapo, and Renato Rezende, all greeted the BMX fans with not only stellar racing on the track, but the Chase team pit/display area was a buzz all weekend. The fans were excited, getting to meet the riders as well as check out the 2 lines of complete bikes from Chase and the Factory equipped team RSP 2.0 Frames built up with some of the best parts in BMX from Elevn, Shimano, Excess, Tioga, ODI, Stealth, KMC, Kingstar, and Excess.

Connor Fields has been one of the most consistent pros in the world over the past few seasons and he started things off on the podium once again at Oldsmar. On Saturday, Connor had a standout day, as he rode in the front of each race on his way to the Elite Mens Pro main event. After a grueling day of racing the motos, 1/8, 1/4, and semi finals, against the worlds fastest Pro racers, Connor lined up for the main event and when the gate dropped, he was once again up front, battling it out for the win. This time, Connor would have to settle for 3rd for the day, but to be on the podium at this event was a huge accomplishment and a great way to kick off the season.

Joris Daudet made his debut on the Chase Factory team a memorable one, as he made his way into the Elite Mens final both days. On Saturday, the racing was stacked as the gate dropped and the racers spun in out down towards the first turn. Joris would slice his way through the pack and come out safe but bottled up, forging his was to a 6th for the day. On Sunday, rode consistent in the top 3 all day, once again making it to the final, but this time, a bad start kept him near the back of the main event, and he would finish up 8th overall.

Look for Connor Fields to be lined up on the gate next weekend at the USA Cycling National Championships in Chula Vista, CA on March 29th. The Chase Factory Pro Team to head off to stop #3 of the USA BMX Pro tour in 2 weeks on April 4th, in Desoto, TX.

The Chase BMX Factory Team is proudly sponsored by Shimano, Tioga, Fly Racing, ODI, Kicker Audio, KMC, Elevn, Excess, Insight, Kingstar, Stealth, and the newest sponsor of the team, G-Form.

DALE HOLMES RACING – RIDE TO END OBESITY PROGRAM

With most BMX Racing Teams, race results & bike sales are usually the main goal of the program. The exception of this is with the Dale Holmes Racing (DHR) team, as they are thinking outside the box. Not only are they an Elite level BMX Race team, competing on the USA BMX National and UCI BMX International Tours, but they are taking BMX racing to the kids away from the track, by visiting schools in the San Diego Area and teaching bicycle safety, helping kids learn the benefits of a healthy, sport filled lifestyle, and introducing BMX to a lot of new kids.

Dale Holmes, a 5-time BMX World Champion and British Cycling Hall of Fame inductee, along with his wife, Adrienne Wells Holmes, and the Dale Holmes Racing Team have partnered with the Poway Unified School District for a new after-school program, the Ride to End Obesity. “Ride to End Obesity” is part of the After-School Education and Safety (ASES) program for grades sixth through eighth. The BMX program is currently being offered at Bernardo Heights Middle School, Black Mountain Middle School, Meadowbrook Middle School, Mesa Verde Middle School and Twin Peaks Middle School, all in the San Diego, CA area.

The 90-minute program includes basic instruction on BMX riding by the DHR Chase/Stay Strong team Pro Riders including 11-time national BMX champion and Olympian Cristian Becerine, Australian 2013 Series Champion Anthony Dean and amateur BMX rider Bryce Betts, with the overall program being hosted by Halee Kalevitch and Adrienne Wells Holmes . Holmes and his companions will focus on teaching students about the benefits of healthy eating, the importance of exercise, and general BMX riding. The DHR Team brings 40 Chase BMX bikes and helmets to each event and sets up a small obstacle course for students to try riding, after the 30 minute discussion.

Adrienne Wells Holmes, who has been organizing the program along with Dale, said she and her husband have been working with the school district for about six months preparing the program. “We wanted the message of healthy eating and exercise to come from athletes about getting an hour of exercise a day,” said Holmes. “We want to encourage kids to get involved in sports.”

The “Ride to End Obesity” program is being sponsored by the Poway and Santee Wal-Mart's and Barona Resort and Casino, with no cost to the school district. Each rider at the seminar not only gets the knowledge from some of the best riders in the sport and the chance to ride the bikes, but they also receive a Wal-Mart goody bag, full of healthy products for the students, a T-shirt, as well as coupons for their families to use on healthy food in the stores.

“Ride to End Obesity” is acting as a pilot program at the selected middle schools. “If it’s successful, we plan to expand to other grade levels,” said Holmes, “as well as other school districts.” Holmes said that the San Diego Unified School District has also expressed interest in their “Ride to End Obesity” program.

The visit on March 12th at the Valley Elementary School was great day for the program and all the students on hand. One student in particular took something away from the days course, that she has been wanting for a year, learning how to ride a bike. ABC 10 News SD came out to cover the event and had a great piece on the 7pm news. To get more info and view more photos , visit the News 10 website

The Dale Holmes Racing Team is proudly partnered with Chase Bicycles and Stay Strong along with WalMart, Elevn, Barona Resort and Casino, ODI, Answer Racing, Shimano, Goliath Financial, Stealth, KMC, Kicker, Vee Tire Co, Excess, Kingstar, and Insight.

Austin Hiatt Leaves Anarchy
Austin Hiatt has become known throughout the nation for being one of the best A-Pro’s in the nation, who separated himself by placing his notorious Van Halen style Anarchy Jersey on his small stature. News broke this week that Austin will no longer pull his red, white, and black striped jersey over his head, and he will instead be seen wearing a plain red Fly Jersey as he finds a new home.

Here’s what Austin said: “It has been an absolute pleasure to represent and help build the Anarchy line with Bill Ryan for the last three seasons. I am grateful for all that the brand and Bill have done for me, but I am also eager to find out what the future holds.”

Quote from Bill Ryan/Anarchy: “Sad to say but Austin Hiatt has left the Anarchy Family. When we first signed Austin to the team he had a broken ankle and wasn’t sure if he was going to ride again. He went on to have 2 great years with us as an A-Pro. We wish Austin much luck in his future with his new sponsors”.

Austin Hiatt’s “privateer” campaign will start in Phoenix, and continue to Florida the next weekend. I have a feeling with multiple A-Pro wins, and an Elite National Championship main-event under his belt, he won’t stay in a blank fly jersey for long. As seen on his Facebook, Austin has built himself a new Haro Clutch equipped with an SRM power meter, BOX components, and a Bryce Betts Designed number plate that he will ride while wearing Fly racing gear and Deft Family gloves.

If you feel like Austin could benefit your program in any way please don’t hesitate to contact him.

My goal with the company is to bring back the great all around frame that takes today's technologies in tubing advancements, and the possibilities in making trick bb's, head tubes, and dropouts but keeping all the gimmicks out of the picture.

We also took a huge look into geometry of a frame and how riders ride them at certain ages and where they advance into different riding styles. Not to mention the true differences in the way someone rides and positions them selves on a bike from your average 5'8" person to your 6'5" person.

Another big reason I am doing this is due to my pure need to be a bike geek since I can remember. I started racing when I was 3 and never looked back. I was always that kid looking at every new part, every frame geometry and seeing things as they were.

So as I got older I always knew exactly what I wanted out of a frame and just still have not found it.

Now I just figure why not do it myself, having one of the best frame builders ever in the sport making them here in the US. I can make them how I want and feel they should be, leaving all the gimmicks at the door. This also stemmed from having my own team now as well and just trying to find that frame co. that everyone wanted, well it doesn't exists. That is where I come in and try to at least make that true for our team.

The other thing that we are doing that has not been done in a long time is bring out a company from the true love of BMX and starting from the ground up. No major money backer, no reason to do this other than to make a kid love their bike.
