NBL Bring-A-Buddy Program on track for a record recruiting year

- Presque Isle BMX, PA the top recruiting track / Brice Richter of Cleves BMX, OH the top recruiter for April/May -

NBL membership continues grow and the Bring-A-Buddy Program is attracting hundreds of new members each month. With more than $40,000 in prizes to be won, NBL tracks and members have been actively promoting the program and there are many new names, and NBL tracks, at the top of the point standings.  Bring-A-Buddy played a key role in boosting the sport’s profile during the Olympic year and the trend continues well into 2009 – That’s good news for the sport and ultimately, for local racing programs around the country.

Brice Richter of Cleves BMX, Ohio is the top recruiter for April/May with 1,600 points and if he continues on this pace, he could earn his way to the top of the rewards chart – And a chance to choose between a Supercross Bolt LT frame or an Intense Podium frame, each worth 3,800 pts. Kyle Crawford of CNY BMX in New York is close behind with 1,400 and Jacob Culligan of G. Mason Burdette BMX in Illinois is third with 1,300.

NBL tracks are also a key part of the program and the top recruiting tracks for each reward period win sponsor products. Leading the charge this year is Presque Isle BMX from Erie, PA in the Northeast region who came out on top with the most new ‘Buddies’ from April 15 to May 31. The top recruiting track from each region receives a free Supercross complete bike and recognition in BMX Today Magazine for their efforts. Presque Isle BMX is in good company – two of the top recruiting tracks from the other three regions are past regional Bring-A-Buddy champions. “We are excited to see the program growing and it’s promising to see a few new names in the standings” said Ken Masters, NBL President. “We are proud of their ongoing commitment to grow the sport at the grass roots level”. Here are the regional winners:

Top Recruiting Tracks by Region for April/May

·         Midwest – G. Mason Burdette BMX, IN

·         Northeast – Presque Isle BMX, PA

·         Southeast - Cape Coral BMX, FL

·         West – Manzanita Park BMX, CA

Visit the NBL website at www.nbl.org for more details and click on the Bring A Buddy banner to view full standings and the rewards catalog.

The 2009 NBL Bring-A-Buddy Program is proudly sponsored by Intense BMX (www.intensebmx.com), Supercross BMX (www.supercrossbmx.com), Kenda Tires (www.kendausa.com), UGP (www.undergroundproducts.com) Sinz Racing (www.sinz-racing.com), THE Industries (www.bmxthe.com), and Camp Woodward (www.campwoodward.com) in association with BMXWORLD, BMX Plus! and BMX Today magazines.

About NBL Bring-A-Buddy

The program is simple and offers an exciting, points-driven, incentive platform that rewards NBL members for their efforts. In the April and May issues of BMX Today magazine, members received a full sheet of ‘Buddy’ cards and were tasked to distribute them to any ‘buddies’ who might be interested in trying BMX for the first time. When any ‘Buddy’ redeems a card at a local NBL BMX track, both the recruiter and the ‘Buddy’ win a free ‘limited-edition’ NBL sticker kit. Recruiters receive 100 points for every ‘Buddy’ who redeems a card and when the ’Buddy’ joins as a full NBL member, the recruiter pockets an additional 300 bonus points. To further support super-active recruiters, additional cards and supplies are available at local NBL tracks.

This year, recruiters can even redeem their points for a limited number of custom, autographed pro jerseys from riders like Randy Stumpfhauser, Stephanie Barragan, Maris Strombergs, Kris Fox and other top riders. A new ‘NBL Grands Package’ and ‘UGP Combo pack’ have also been added to the mix.

Morphine Industries signs 19-27X, Olijuwon Davis

Morphine Industries is stoked to have Olijuwon “Nugget” Davis as it's newest member to the Factory Team.  O.D. has been on fire this season, racking up 3 wins and 4 second place finishes in his last eight races!   Not only does he tear it up on the track but he's one of BMX's good guys...always helping the little groms and always has a smile on his face.

With his impressive finishes and off track personality, we knew Olijuwon would be a perfect fit on the team and prove to be a great representative for Morphine Industries and our co-sponsors.

Look for O.D. to debut the Morphine colors at the ABA's Land O' Lakes nationals in July, then join the entire factory team in North Carolina at the East Coast Nationals in August.

Morphine Industries would like to thank its Factory Team Sponsors; Staats Motocross Bicycles (www.staatsbikes.com), Alienation (www.alienationbmx.com), Fly Racing (www.flyracingbmx.com), Lost Energy Drink (www.lostenterprises.com), Tioga (www.tiogausa.com/bmx), Sinz Racing (www.sinz-racing.com), Rennen (www.rennendesigngroup.com)

Morphine Industries Hits Street Scene Signing Addison Sasso

Photos courtesy of Fat Tony

Coral Springs, Florida, June 26, 2009 - Morphine Industries signs Addison Sasso to Street/Park/Dirt Crew. Addison got our attention through Morphine Industries’ Guru and Crew T.M., Marlowe Buelvas.  “I have been riding with Addison for a while and have watched him shred everything in site.  He needed to get hooked up with a company that would get behind his riding and help him blow-up”, tells Buelvas.  “Addison has always been riding busted up bikes/parts due to his “go-for” it approach, like his 17 step bar-spin bomb drop, so I though he would be a great fit with Morphine Industries.”

“We are stoked to work with Addison on new parts as we make a big push into the Street/Park/Dirt market.  He is a great rider with a fearless style of riding that is evident from his recent exposure in Ride, Props 72, Banned 3 and Sunshine Sports Channel.” continues Buelvas.

“The Morphine Industries’ guys have been great and I’m juiced to be riding their parts and look forward to repping them in the streets”, adds Sasso.

“Addison is a great plus to the Morphine Industries family.  We have a lot of badass riders that kill it on the dirt track and we are now lucky to have Addison that kills it in the street.” remarks Reeves, Morphine Industries founder.

Addison is from Miami but currently riding out of the Ocala/Orlando area.

Addison will also get support and products from our other great team sponsors such as Alienation rims, hubs, grips, seat and seatpost, Tioga tires, Rennen gears, and Lost Energy Drink.

GHP Factory Battles In Rockford!

GHP factory riders Randy Stumpfhauser, John Purse, Robert Harris and Ted “Pedro” Brown headed out for the ABA’s Midwest Nationals in Rockford IL.

The competition was stacked in all classes, especially the Elite and AA pro class. Randy has been training hard and it’s really showing in his first straight pull. Both days he ran hard up front and finished just off the box in 4th place.

Vet Pro had both factory riders in the main. Robert Harris and “The Jackal” John Purse made mains on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday was hard on both riders with JP sliding out in the second turn and Robert getting caught up in the carnage. Sunday John would finish on the podium in second, Harris in 7th.

In who can only be described as one of the most improved riders of the year Ted “Pedro” Brown has been on a rampage through the National circuit. Ted put his Factory cruiser on top the podium both days in 31-35 cruiser.

Look for Hill and the gang in California at the ABA Summer Nationals July 3rd – 5th.

GHP would like to thank their sponsors. Troy Lee Designs, ODI, HRP Designs, Capital Contractors, INC. and Rhythm.

Morphine Industries Hits Rockford For the ABA Midwest Nationals

After laying down 23+ hours on the road, we rolled into Rockford, IL on Wednesday night to race, represent and have a great weekend at one of the best races in BMX.

The end of the week brought some nasty weather with winds gusting over 70 miles an hour and rain that flooded the track and infield with over 2 feet of water.  However, the Rockford crew got the track up and running for Saturday.

A Pro-Tyler Faoro, started the weekend stepping up to Elite men in UCI.  Holding his own in stacked motos, he missed the main event.  Sunday racing went back to ABA classes and Tyler soared to the main.  Battling with Josh Meyers into turn 2, Josh slide out and took Tyler and the whole main event gate with him to the asphalt.  Unfortunately being in front meant being at the bottom of the pile and a 5th place finish.

A Pro-Jason LaRev, took Saturday off and showed up Sunday with a mission for the main.  He transferred to main with ease and finished with a 3rd place podium spot.  Congrats to JRev for 3 for 3 podiums in his last three national races.  Yeah Boy!

28-35/31-35Cr-Doran Bradshaw, had to deal with some of the biggest classes of the weekend with Quarters on 20”.  Saturday brought about some bar banging and turn pimping on both bikes.  He got slammed in turn 1 in his semi to miss the transfer to the main, but came back on his cruiser to battle with “Pedro” for the win.  Making a text book move in turn 3 to take the lead but unable to hold on finishing with a deuce.  Sunday brought about the same exciting racing for Doran and the same results.

41+-Jonathan Reeves, battled with a group of locals for the wins on both days.  Although he transferring out in the first moto both days,  Jonathan settled for 4ths in both the mains.

12X/12Cr-Noah Reeves, killed it all weekend in both classes, banging bars with Alden Volle and Walker Finch.  When the dust cleared Noah settled for deuces on Cruiser and tres on 20 for both days.

10X-Richie Dey, wowed the crowd as usual.  Unfortunately getting sick over the weekend hampered his normally sky high antics.  Richie finished with a 5th and 4th on the weekend in class and 2nd and 3rd in Open.

We rolled into town with 6 riders and we left with 7 riders.  Check out the next press release to fill in the blanks.

Thanks to everyone in Rockford for a great race.  Thanks BMX Billy Maule for hanging with us and being security over the weekend – you the man.

The Morphine Rig is going to chill in south Florida for a bit while a few of us get ready for Adelaide.  However, we have sent our A GAME to the Midwest , Tyler Faoro.  He will be hitting South Park, Pontiac, Nashville, Trumbull, Prunedale and who knows where else over the next few weeks/months – Beware.

Thanks to Jerry Landrum/BMXmania.com for the great pics.

Dirty Souls BMX

Carl Lein, one of the 'Main Men About BMX" in Texas and the U.S. BMX National Circuit for many years has cranked up a new Team and Sponsorship effort. After wearing many hats including the well known national team/Big Knobby Squad, the nationally published monthly BMX magazine/Moto Mag, the Pryme BMX Factory Team and FactoryBMX.com Carl is taking a new direction with his BMX effortts. Straight from The Man Hiz Self.....

"......After riding for various teams or running my own team for the past 20 years I decided to do something a little different.

I'm at a place where I don't need a sponsor, so I thought I would represent the One who makes all this cool BMX possible.

I want to combine my two loves; Jesus Christ and BMX, so I created Dirty Souls.

Dirty Souls is just my way of giving credit where credit is due.

I have a simple website with God's simple message of salvation and I'll be doing my best to represent him at BMX tracks around the world."

"A couple of companies have graciously sponsored me; so thank you to Supercross BMX, Fly, Alienation, and Hot Shoppe.

I'm also representing C28, and exciting contemporary Christian apparel retailer." - Carl Lein/Dirty Souls BMX

Matt Pohlkamp

on the Reactor Pro

at the Rock!

We at Diamondback are super pumped to announce that Matt Pohlkamp is on a Reactor pro!

Matt got his bike together right before the Rockford ABA/UCI event that went down last weekend.

Matt looked good all weekend but missed the mains both days, but this upcoming weekend is NBL South Park and if I am not mistaken Matt won it last year. Lets see it again this year!

Matt is also a camp Pro at the BMX Mania summer camp this week. So get out there kids and check him and his bike out!

NBL Southeast Regional (PRO-AM) at Oak Mountain BMX

As always the Oak Mountain Park was looking good and ready for some good ole southeast racing. Friday's weather was perfect and the track was very smooth and fast.

The turn out was quite good with somewhere around 50 motos.

Friday included hot weather along, with Clayborn's, Barry Nobles putting on a clinic.

Barry just had surgery a month ago, but was back on the track doing it for the kids. Barry's a very class act.

Saturday arrived and the weather wasn't looking too good, as it rained literally from 6:30am to about 5 pm, then Oak Mountain Volunteers called the race.

Sunday was a different story, the track was good, some big names showed up for the PRO-AM open series which was tough.

The pro am was 16 and over and it included names such as Morphine Industries Benny Wright, BMXmania.com's/Chase "ME" Campbell, Cahaba Cycles/Jesse Heath, Josh Frizzell, Formula's/Colby Murphy, and Cyclecrafts/Bill Madden, So it was no easy race whatsoever.

Through out motos Chase Campbell looked like he was on with some moto wins, Formula's Colby Murphy won the other rack of motos.

The main was up and it look stacked, the gate dropped and Colby, Chase, Benny, and Bill were bar to bar and then going around the first turn it was Murphy and Benny.

Chase tried to dive in turn two to make the move and ended up hitting Bill and taking himself out of the race. The top three to win the pro am money was 1.Colby Murphy 2.Morphine's Benny Wright 3. Bill Madden.

In the am classes, the crowd was "Wowed", watching the smoothest lil kid ever to shred a bike.. Richie Day from Morphine! If you ever go to a race where he's racing,  watch that kid, he's worth the effort.

Jon Jackson looked good in 19-27 ex takin' the win.

The regional was a main success, besides the rain Saturday, but the volunteers made sure it was great on race time on Sunday.

Visit www.Oakmountainbmx.com for more information.

Sifiso Nhlapo seriously INJURED IN Norway!

Hitting a training session hard today in Norway Sifiso had some bad luck. At first we thought it would be a repeat of last year where he knocked himself out and came back to a Bronze at Worlds. This time it is a little more serious.

Sifiso was out training with good friend Anders Gronsund in Norway tonight and what started as another day in the office has ended badly. Down the first straight hitting the second jump which is like a table top Sifiso got bounced off and landed on his head. The jaw piece of the fox helmet broke off thats how hard he crashed which left him unconscious.

Sifiso has been rushed to hospital and they have found the following, sorry I just got off the phone to a Norwegian doctor and this is what I could make out....he has fractured his 3rd & 4th cervical vertebrae and done alot of damage to ligaments, they will be operating through the front of his neck. They have not picked up nerve damage yet so no signs of paralysis now. Once the first op is done he will be in a brace for 6 weeks then they will decide what they going to do with the damage ligaments.

Thats all I have for everyone now will keep you posted, will be updating his website www.skizo105.com with the latest on how he is doing.

If you would like to send him a mail you can do so to Sifiso@sifisonhlapo.com

Sifiso update (Tuesday, june 23) - Sifiso came out of surgery just before 1am this morning and was speaking to the doctor right after he woke up. Skizo was complaining about a lot of pain which the doctor has said is normal for this type of surgery. He will be in hospital for another two days and then go to Anders house to start recovery.

The doctor, after surgery has said he will make full recovery. So just waiting to see how long before he can come home to south africa, etc….BIG thank you to Anders and his family for the care they are taking of Skizo while he is there.

UK WINS UCI BMX WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS 2012

BIRMINGHAM TO HOST THE COMPETITION

British Cycling is pleased to announce that Birmingham will host the UCI BMX World Championships in 2012, bringing the most prestigious annual BMX competition to the UK just ahead of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The UCI BMX World Championships will be held at the National Indoor Arena on 24 - 27 May, one of the busiest, large scale indoor sporting and entertainment venues in the UK, offering BMX enthusiasts the last chance to see the world’s best riders in action before they compete in the Olympics in August.

Birmingham has been awarded the competition thanks to its central location, strong infrastructure and first class sport facilities, having fought off stiff competition from Copenhagen (Denmark), Auckland (New Zealand) and Rotterdam (Holland).

The bid to host the event in the UK was also successful due to the combined commitment of British Cycling and Birmingham City Council to use the competition to create a lasting legacy for the BMX discipline in Birmingham and nationwide, inspiring participation in the sport.

Ian Drake, CEO at British Cycling, commented: “This is a fantastic day for the BMX discipline and we are delighted with UCI’s decision. Holding the UCI BMX World Championships on UK soil shows how committed we are to growing the BMX discipline in this country. The event will present a great opportunity for people to engage with BMX on their doorstep and will prompt a significant investment into the discipline through the development of world-class facilities. Ultimately, it’s about encouraging youngsters to get on their bike and creating a lasting legacy. I am confident the continued success of our athletes will help us do just that by inspiring new generations of BMX riders for many years to come.”

UCI President, Pat McQuaid, commented: “We are delighted that the UCI BMX World Championships 2012 has been awarded to Birmingham. Great Britain is one of the leaders in this young spectacular discipline and we are sure that this event, staged in the heart of UK’s largest city, will build on this trend. I am confident that, with the expertise and the enthusiasm of British Cycling and all other partners involved in this great project, we will offer a fantastic edition of the Championships to the worldwide BMX community. With the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games taking place just several months later, the Championships will be held in a truly magic atmosphere Well done all and thank you Birmingham!”

Councillor Martin Mullaney, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Sport and Culture, said: “This is fantastic news for the city, we are looking forward to staging such a prestigious event in Birmingham.  Our track record of hosting major events is second to none and we expect this to be another hugely successful event just three months prior to the 2012 London Olympics. The lasting legacy of the Birmingham BMX track being built in Perry Park means that the people of Birmingham will not only get to watch the world’s best BMX riders competing in the city but will also have a first class venue to take part in the sport on as well.”

UK Sport’s Senior Events Consultant, Simon Morton, said: “We are delighted that the UK has won the right to host the UCI BMX World Championships in 2012. This is an important competition in our wider programme of world-class events, which is designed to help prepare the UK for staging a home Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012. Through our National Lottery funded World Class Events Programme, we have awarded a grant of up to £300,000 towards the staging costs of this event. This is an important qualification event for 2012 which will bring significant benefits to British athletes, in addition to leaving a lasting legacy of permanent BMX facilities.

British Cycling, Birmingham City Council and UK Sport are currently awaiting the result of their bid to host a round of the UEC European BMX Championships in 2011, which would provide a test event for the UCI BMX World Championships in 2012 and create additional opportunities to put BMX firmly on the UK map. PERCY OWENS PROFILE CLINICS IN VIRGINIA!

AN AWESOME OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN FROM ONE OF THE BEST,

PROFILE RACING'S, PERCY OWENS!

BMX Continental Series finale set for Rockford, Il this weekend

USA Cycling News Release!

Colorado Springs, Colo. (June 18, 2009) --With round #9 of the UCI Continental Series in the books as of last weekend, there is just one UCI-sanctioned BMX event left in the U.S. this season.

Going into the final UCI Continental Series event, Donny Robinson (Napa, Calif.) and Stephanie Barragan (Montclair, Calif.) top the elite men’s and women’s USA Cycling Power Rankings. Nicholas Long (Lakeside, Calif.) sits atop the U23 men’s list while Denzel Stein (DeSoto, Texas) and Dominique Daniels (Gilbert, Ariz.) are the number-one ranked juniors. The USA Cycling Power Rankings system awards points to riders based on their performances in UCI Super Cross World Cup events, the UCI BMX World Championships, the UCI Continental Series, and the USA Cycling BMX National Championships. USA Cycling then takes these rankings into consideration when naming athletes to U.S. National Teams for UCI World Cup events. To view the latest USA Cycling Power Rankings, click here.

The 10th and final round of the UCI Continental Series is set to go off this Saturday, June 20th, in Rockford, Ill. Then, the season will culminate with the 2009 UCI BMX World Championships in Adelaide, Australia July 20-26.

The ninth round of the UCI Continental Series, which took place in Milford, Del. on June 13th, saw U.S. Olympian Kyle Bennett (Conroe, Texas/Free Agent) and reigning national champ Dominique Daniels take the elite men’s and women’s victories while Thomas Zula (New Carlisle, Ohio) claimed the junior elite men’s win.

Bennett led the elite men’s main from start to finish. Olympic bronze medalist Donny Robinson was in a close second-place until getting caught in a tangle, leaving Bennett to take the win ahead of David Herman (Wheat Ridge, Colo.) and current UCI North American Points leader Nicholas Long (Lakeside, Calif.)

Daniels dominated the elite women’s contest from the gun with her only real threat coming from Alaina Henderson (Ruby, N.Y.) who briefly took the lead in the final turn before crashing out. The 16-year-old Daniels crossed the line ahead of second- and third-place finishers Stephanie Barragan and Danielle Brisson (CAN).

Unlike the two elite contests, Zula didn’t lead the junior elite men’s race from start to finish. 2008 Junior World Champion Sam Willoughby (AUS) had the lead until Zula overtook him at the end of the third straight. Willoughby settled for the podium’s second step while Alex Anthony (Saugus, Calif.) claimed the bronze medal.

USA Cycling will announce the Team USA Championship class start list for the world championships on July 15th, following the finale of the UCI Continental Series. The start lists for the Challenge and Masters classes are available now by clicking here.

A different spin on BMX Summer camps

http://bmxcamp.webs.com/

BMX is about FUN.  Whether you learn the newest trick, make every main you race in, like to hop up curbs, or just like playing in the dirt... the name of the game is STILL fun.  What's not fun is paying almsot a Grand to be stuck in a hot, stuffy cabin, surrounded by hundreds of other kids, and trying to ride a park or track where you can't seem to get a run in.

My summer camp is different.  We love fun, we love riding skateparks, dirt jumps, street, tracks, trails, or just hopping up curbs.  And we love doing it with a few buddies, with no pressure to learn the hottest trick or become the fastest racer there is.  If you are into having the BEST time ever on your BMX bike, keep on reading, and visit http://bmxcamp.webs.com/.  I think you will love what ya see, and I think you will wanna spend the few dollars to have the time of your life.

Why not have a "Camp" without the negatives of high prices, boredom of the same place, large crowds, or too short of a time?  Why not have a place to experience the FUN times, new places to ride, relaxed atomosphere of home, experienced teaching, riding as much as you want, Low Prices, home cooking, and feel of a small group of friends, yet in a supervised manner?  Hence an idea was born.  The Nate Strieby BMX Summer Camps.

If you come to camp, these are the things I will be striving to get you:
You are guaranteed to be in a group of 10 or less campers.
You are guaranteed to be able to ride with at least 3 Pro riders, Race and Freestyle.
You are guaranteed to be able to ride at least 6 different places.
You will stay at Nate and Martha Strieby's personal homestead, complete with trails, track, and ramps.
You are guaranteed to not be bored.  Unless you actually wanted to go to, say, ballerina camp.... in which case maybe ya shouldn't be here... haha.

All right, no beating around the bush here, the price for the 4 day camp is $200. This price includes all meals, transportation to and from riding venues, sleeping quarters, showers, entry to skateparks and tracks, movie nights, everything. I am NOT kidding.

Also, due to popular demand, and the economy, we are charging Day rates.  Don't want to plop down 200 bucks, but still would love to swing by for a day or two?  We have you covered.  For only $50 bucks a day, you get to ride it all and stay the night.  Makes it easier on the wallet, and easier to fit into your busy schedule.

Also, with these day rates, you are not limited to the camp weeks... so give me a call to see when I will be around and available....

How can you afford NOT to come??

Camp Dates are June 29 - July 2 AND July 6 - July 9. There will be more coming, so keep checking the site at http://bmxcamp.webs.com/.

When you stay at the Nate Strieby BMX Summer Camp, we will be riding at all kinds of different venues.  Here are some of the closest, most within 10 minutes.  After you see the pictures, I am betting you can't wait to ride!!

REDLINE's MASA SAMPEI TAKES NO.1 TITLE IN JAPAN

It's been a long time coming: MASA SAMPEI and his Flight Pro XL recently defeated defending Champion Akafumi Sakamoto for the No.1 Pro title in Japan.

"I did All Japan Championships," Masa tells us in his slightly broken-English with his typically big grin on his face. "This was first year for me in Elite Men. I felt really good there and took the win. Akifumi got 2nd."

To watch the main event - CLICK HERE.   For complete Photos of the All Japan Champs – GO HERE.

Redline congratulates Masa on his first No.1 Pro title in Japan. It looks like all of his time spent recently with Joey Bradford is rubbin’ off.  And to celebrate the title, Masa showed up in Delaware for another round of the UCi points series. And he was looking mighty fast and was considered a main-event contender until he was stopped short in the semi’s.

And to make it known to all BMXers around the World, Redline and HotShoppe are creating a special Japan National Champion jersey for Masa to run for the rest of the year.

PRO BMX RIDERS FEATURED ON NEW REALITY SERIES - "Next X"

“Next X” is the original reality series featuring five national amateur BMX and skateboarding athletes between the ages of 8 and 12  who aspire to become tomorrow's greatest X-Games superstars.  The young athletes will face difficult challenges, overcome obstacles and push themselves and their skills to new limits.  As a surprise, they will be mentored by some of the best X Game professionals in the world!  The series premiered June 8 on DISNEY XD and will culminate in a half-hour special in August.

Scotty Cranmer is one of the professional BMX riders featured in this series and I was wondering if you’d be interested in speaking with him and his younger brother Matty about their experiences on “Next X.”

Scotty Cranmer began his BMX career in 2003 with racing before realizing his love of freestyle BMX and switching to that event category.  Cranmer's many accolades include a silver and gold medal for his X Games appearances in 2005 and 2006 respectively and he became the first person to land a front flip tailwhip in a competition at the 2007 Salt Lake City AST Event.  In 2008, Cranmer was named Freestyler on the Year by BMX Plus Magazine, a honor given by BMX fans.

In this reality series, Scotty is paired up with his 11-year-old younger brother Matty Cranmer.  He began riding a bike at age 2, racing at age 6 and entered his first freestyle competition at age 10.  He races at the Expert Level and competes at the Amateur Level in freestyle.  The most difficult trick the 11-year-old has landed is a back flip.    Though Cranmer's concentration is in BMX racing, he's begun exploring trick riding like his older brother, professional BMX rider Scotty Cranmer, which he considers a major influence in his life.

The series features:

Amateur Athletes

Ian Bradley (Specialty:  BMX)

Mattie Cranmer (Specialty:  BMX)

Micah Wu (Specialty:  Skateboarding)

Mitchie Brusco (Specialty:  Skateboarding)

Tom Schaar (Specialty:  Skateboarding)

Professional Athletes

UCI Bolivia Day 1 Results

Day two was not different from day one, everyone's favorite was Emilio Fall since he was the big winner on day one. "Moquito" Suarez was also looking to take back the first place and win the main event, even though he has a bad crash on one of the qualifying motos he was not going to let this one run away from his hands. Main event time, all the attention was on lane 3 Falla and lane 7 Suarez. But even though they came out strong our of the gate the surprise of the day was Fausto Endara who was on lane 5, after going through the firts jumps on the first straight there were some contact between Endara, Falla and Ecudero resulting on Fallas crash and Endara taking the lead, Suarez charged hard all the way on the pro section and rhytim section trying to catch Endara but this would not happen and Endara would be the big winner on day 2 of the UCI Round 10 in Bolivia.

UCI representatives were present, and very satisfied on how the organization and smooth development of the race go. While in different press conference they expressed their satisfaction and also the hope for Bolivia to keep organizing big events, and be part of the, not only south american UCI rounds but for bigger things.

The people From Bolivia wants to thank the UCI for giving us the chance to have this rave, the support from local authotities, newspapers,  all the fans that came out and cheer all their favorite riders, all our international family that came out and race in our country, hoping they come back soon and bring more friends to enjoy and have fun practicing our sport BMX.

We also want to thanks Jerry at BMXmania for showing us his passion for our sport and posting all the reports and pictures from our big come back. Thanks Jerry, I know you have relatives that are from Bolivia, but we want you to come here. Gracias Jerry!

ATTENTION: USAC CHALLENGE worlds' TEAM MEMBERS!

Many questions are being asked from riders attending this years World Championships in Adelaide, Australia.

Riders and parents should know that we have everything you need to know posted on the USAC BMX home page or you can just click the following link: https://www.usacycling.org/news/user/story.php?id=4080

The most common question right now concerns the TravMed Insurance.

This is a MUST have insurance that you need to have to participate in this World Championship event.

The cost is minimal at $3.00 per day.

Please check out this information page to read the explanation for this insurance.

Greg Cross from the USAC has posted a letter explaining...

Re: TravMed Insurance Explanation

I know there has been some confusion regarding the forms and insurance requirements for the 2009 BMX World Championships in Adelaide, Australia. I would like to explain in greater detail why USA Cycling is requiring all athletes competing at the Worlds to purchase TravMed Abroad insurance.

The TravMed Abroad insurance is mandatory to ensure a minimal level of coverage for all athletes traveling and racing abroad under the organization of USA Cycling. The policy may fill gaps in an athletes personal insurance coverage and also covers that individual during competition and or racing (something many other insurance policies exclude.) Additionally, some hospitals require up-front payment of medical expenses for non-residents and visitors. When possible, TravMed Abroad protects the traveler by making direct payments to physicians, hospitals, and the organization handling evacuations. Requiring the purchase of TravMed Abroad is the only way USA Cycling can ensure that an athlete has a certain level of coverage during international competition and it provides excellent benefits with minimal cost.

TravMed Abroad insurance is not purchased through USA Cycling but rather through a company called MEDEX that specializes in worldwide insurance products. They market a range of insurance products but have specially designed one for USA Cycling Athletes that covers accidents that occur during international competition as well as general sickness and injury. A description of the plan created for USA Cycling can be found by clicking here.

In order to get this unique plan, you must call 1-800-732-5309 and specifically mention that you are a USA Cycling BMX Athlete. The coverage is provided at a discounted rate of $3 a day and must begin the day you depart on the trip and end the day you return home. It must cover the entire trip and not just racing days.

Once an athlete has purchased the insurance coverage by calling 1-800-732-5309 and mentioning USA Cycling, MEDEX will email an insurance card to that athlete. Please print that card as proof of insurance and include a copy of it with the forms sent to USA Cycling.

Without TravMed Abroad proof of insurance and the other required USA Cycling forms, you may not be able to compete at the 2009 BMX World Championships. All forms are due by June 20th, 2009 and should be mailed to:

Gregory Cross BMX Worlds

210 USA Cycling Point, Suite 100

Colorado Springs, CO 80919

If you have additional questions on TravMed Abroad or anything else, feel free to contact me at 719-434-4232 or gcross@usacycling.org

Sincerely,

Gregory Cross

Director of Logistics and Operations

In addition, the the "Official Team USA Jersey" has been released. Here is what it looks like!

Any other questions please email myself at brianfell@bellsouth.net. We are looking forward to another exciting year at this years World Championships!

Thank you!

NBL Board Announces By-Laws Changes

Official NBL News Release: Hilliard, OH, (June 12, 2009)

Steve Doan, Chairman of the NBL Bylaws Committee, and the NBL Board of Directors, is excited to announce the passage of revised Bylaws at the last board of directors meeting. These Bylaw revisions are a direct result of this years spirited Competition Congress and are a major step toward furthering the democratic principles and openness of the NBL – the only not for profit BMX sanctioning organization.

Steve Doan would like to recognize the hard work and dedication of the committee members, Paul Kincheloe, Darol Carr, Betty Mulligan and Connie Shepler. The committee meetings were frank, open and sometimes spirited but in the end all found common ground. The committee’s proposed changes were reviewed by the entire NBL Board of Directors over the last month. During the June 11 board meeting, some changes were recommended by board members that were incorporated into the final revisions. Between the work of the committees, the entire board of directors and NBL staff, these Bylaw revisions, along with other recently announced changes, show the NBL has heard its members’ concerns and are making substantive responsive changes.

These changes, more then anything else, demonstrate what differentiates the NBL from all other BMX sanctioning organizations - the NBL is everyone’s organization and is committed to its members and riders. This is an exciting time to be a rider, parent, or a volunteer in the NBL

The newly energized Board of Directors continues to develop new initiatives and vision for the future of NBL and BMX and welcomes further involvement by all its members.

To view the complete NBL Bylaws, please visit www.nbl.org and click on this news article.

UCI Bolivia Day 1 Results

Junior Men was a tough battle between all Bolivian riders, it was sad not to have riders from other countries, but that did not take credit of the riders in the main event. The big expectation was the battle between Mario Yaffar and Sebastian Vargas, where both have shown a big improvement in the last few years and through out the main event they battle it out, until one of them made a mistake and fall, leaving the best in front and with the win was Mario Yaffar.

Junior Men

1. MARIO YAFFAR (BOL)
2. PEDRO YBARNEGARY (BOL)
3. LEONARDO BONILLA (BOL)
4. OLIVER MERINO (BOL)
5. ARTURO FLORES (BOL)
6. SEBASTIAN VARGAS (BOL)
7. JUAN PABLO CISNEROS (BOL)

Elite Men was something that all spectators were waiting for, all the attention was center on this main event, after seeing what could have be done during the qualifying rounds, it made everybody wonder how would the main be, the two riders to watch... Jonathan Suarez from Venezuela and Emilio Falla from Ecuador. They both were next to each other on the gate, but Suarez made a little mistake coming out of the gate making Falla take the lead and don't look back, making him the big winner of the day, what a way to celebrate also his birthday with a victory.

Elite Men:

1. EMILIO FALLA (ECU)
2. JONAThAN SUAREZ (VEN)
3. JOSE LUIS PRIMERA (VEN)
4. FAUSTO ENDARA (ECU)
5. PAULO VICTOR AGUILERA (BOL)
6. ISAIAS ZAPATA (CHL)
7. JAVIER REYES (VEN)
8. JOSE ESCUDERO (ECU)

Thanks to Jerry at BMX Mania for all the support for this race, we will be sending more results tomorrow for Day 2 of competition.

Factory Felt/SC Action Sports', Joey Albright Turns Vet Pro

Happy Birthday, Joey Albright and welcome to the super competitive Vet Pro class. Joey has been looking foward to this day all year.

This will be the beginning of a new era for him in his BMX career. There is no one who works harder or more loyal to his craft than Joey Albright.

He came to the Factory Felt team four years ago and has been the most valuable rider to the team ever since his arrival. He works with the younger riders on the team and is a mentor and big brother to all of them.

Just recently he had a mishap enroute to the Woodbridge VA national where his bike was lost off the back of his vehicle somewhere on the New Jersey Turnpike, thanks to his great sponsors Felt, SC Action Sports and THE/Sinz he was able to put together a new bike just in time for his debut in the Vet Pro class at the Fresno California NBL national.

Watch out for Joey at a national near you, as he battles with all the cagey Vet Pros out there.

It's not going to be easy, but we know he's up to it!

Everyone here at Felt wishes Joey all the luck in the world in the Vet Pro class. Great guy...Great teammate!

Carlos Perez - TM Factory Felt/ SC Action Sports

UK  STAY STRONG / FREEAGENT TEAM UPDATE

This weekend saw STAY STRONG riders Gareth Bates and Andy Shaw out at Peterborough for rounds 5 and 6 of the UK National Championships. Andy went into the weekend leading the points and came away with another 2 mains but couldn't quite put it together either day and finished 7th and 6th over the weekend putting him down to second in the overall points at this stage of the season. Andy is consistently in the mains week in week out and leading plenty of laps... pulling the young guns on flat pedals at 35 years old!

Gareth Bates is becoming known as  "the one day specialist" after only racing Sunday for the second national weekend in a row...but again looked good winning all his moto's and semi and coming away with a 3rd in the main behind World Freeagent TM Dale Holmes who was back in the UK for the weekend promoting Freeagent. Two 3rd places in his last two nationals will push Bates up the rankings with 4 rounds to go.

As nice as it is to get good results the aim of the STAY STRONG team in 09 is to really just keep STEPHEN MURRAY'S name out in the race scene where he originated.  The guy's are proud to ride with his name on their backs and represent some of the brands that have helped Stephen along the way over the years. Stephen continues to battle his injuries which have left him paralysed from the shoulders down but as always remains positive and upbeat about his situation and continues to inspire people across the globe. He has an exclusive and long awaited interview in the next issue of UK Ride Magazine which is dropping this month.. He most definitely didn't hold back  any details in this one......not to be missed!!!

STAY STRONG also want to congratulate our Euro co-sponsored  riders on recent success's.  Roy Van Den Berg for taking the big win in Dessel Belgium at the last Euro round and Arnaud Dubois for winning the overall title in the French Cup last weekend. Good job guys... Stephen is stoked you're representing him and STAY STRONG clothing.

Thanks to our team sponsors for 09 for their continued support: Freeagent ,  Rockstar Energy,  Ogio,  Fox Racing,  Dragon Optical,  Sinz,  Intense Tyres,  New Era.

SHOW YOUR SUPPORT FOR THE TROOPS!

The Kevlar Craze continues!

Supercross BMX releases full size run of Kevlar Blue Streaks.

4 years ago when Supercross introduced their Blue Streak Tires they became the underground favorite of Racers and Dirt Jumpers. It's low profile non directional tread and special fabric weave that allowed high pressures without sidewall splits or bulging was what the demanding riders were looking for.

Then 2 years ago they stepped it up a notch by introducing a Kevlar Version of the 1.5 size which was ran by Samantha Cools at the 2008 Olympic Games.

Now for 2009 and beyond, Supercross Has released the Kevlar Beaded Blue Streaks in all of their 20" sizes so regardless of your Racing or Dirt jump riding Style and size, now you can benefit from the ultra light weight of the Kevlar Beaded Versions of the Supercross BlueStreaks. Kris Fox is already shreding the OTC ( Olympic Training Center ) on his new Kevlar Blue Streaks as well as using them to hit the Dirt Jumps and Skatepark

Arnaud Dubois Powers MBK MX540 carbon frame to Elite French Cup Title

Last weekend took place in south of France (Marseille) the two last round of the French Cup on a specific track built on the sea side!!!

It was a great organisation in a magic area and with the Sunday race in live on http://team.sports.orange.fr/videos/orange-sports-tv/ !!!!!

Pablo Gutierrez was as well part of this fabulous organisation and spent a lot of time to make this event a success.

And at the same time he succeeded to make a great race because he reached both days the final with a 5th and 3rd place!!!

Arnaud Dubois did exactly the same but in the reverse way and finished Saturday 3rd and Sunday 5th!!!

But for him was a day to take no risk for the European Championship in which he can still expect the title.

So with these two Finals, Arnaud succeed to win the final ranking of the Elite French cup!!!

First time a foreign rider won this title in France!

Congratulation Arnaud to give to the MBK MX540 carbon frame its first title!!!

Thomas Avolio succeeded to make a great weekend with two finals in “Nationaux” category with a 4th and 6th place!

King of the Empire series Update

Race one and two of the King of the Empire series is in the books.

Race 1, at CNY BMX on May 30th. Rennen/Intense teammates Max Egdorf and Ross Wooding took the top two spots in the main, with Nick Simon rounding out the podium finishers. The rest of the main event finishers were Blaine Stottlar, Sean Mabin, Matt Bonnett, Mitch Hale & Chris Aman. The total payout for the top 4 finishers was $402.00

Race 2, at Kingston Point BMX on June 6. Factory Felt, and newly minted Vet Pro, Joey Albright came back to win the last two qualifying rounds after a hard crash in the first round. Rennen/Intense was well represented by Pat Parker, who was working a perfect through the motos, and Ross Wooding. The main event had Albright with a strong start out of gate 7 to take the bonus point for the holeshot with Parker, Wooding and Matt Bonnett, the youngest rider in the field, in tow down the second straight. Bonnett made a strong run at Wooding in the rhythm section but couldn't pull off the move heading into the third turn. That's how the top four finished. The rest of the main was: Enzo Perez, Rich Nelson, Cody Buck & Nick Stodolski The total payout for the top 5 was $459.00.

Riders that did not make the main event had the opportunity to race the BMXUnderground.com "NO BULL B- MAIN". Scott Doland had the early lead but was passed by the eventual winner Justin Ledoux. Ledoux took walked away with a cool $20 and broke even for the day.

Morphine Industries' Tyler Faoro Hits the NBL Midwest Nationals

Super X Tyler Faoro headed to Warsaw, Indiana this past weekend to be the sole Morphine Industries’ rider to hit the NBL Midwest National at Hire Park BMX.

The Big A race brought some stiff competition for Tyler to show the Midwest some of what Florida has to offer.  Saturday’s main started with Tyler getting the holeshot and leading to the third straight.  As the track got tight, Tyler over cleared a series of doubles causing him to lose speed going into the third turn.  This gave Jeffery Upshaw the ability to rail the turn and catch Tyler, from behind, at the finish on his home track.

Sunday proved to be some of the same with Jeffery leading the way and Tyler coming back on the second half of the track only to come up a little short at the finish.

Tyler will be heading to Rockford, IL  to meet up with the rest of the Morphine Crew for the ABA Midwest Nationals June 19-21 and then to Pittsburg for the NBL Stars-n-Stripes National June 27-28.

Morphine Industries would like to thank its Factory Team Sponsors; Staats Motocross Bicycles (www.staatsbikes.com), Alienation (www.alienationbmx.com), Fly Racing (www.flyracingbmx.com), Lost Energy Drink (www.lostenterprises.com), Tioga (www.tiogausa.com/bmx), Sinz Racing (www.sinz-racing.com), Rennen (www.rennendesigngroup.com)

ABA Mid America Nationals Race Report

While most of the Morphine Industries team stayed home for a weekend off before the busy summer tour starts. Jason LaRev and Doran Bradshaw made the 11 hour trek out to the ABA Mid America Nationals in Blue Springs Missouri. The track was smooth as glass, with a technical rhythm which made for some great racing through out the weekend.

Doran Bradshaw Had a Great weekend throwin Bo's at his competition (as pictured) with the very stacked classes of 31-35 cruiser & 28-35X. Doran killed it by getting two 2nd place finishes in cruiser for the weekend, and his 20 inch class things didn't go as planned thanks to carnage in the turns and technical difficulties but he'll be back for redemption in Rockford in a few weeks.

    Jason LaRev
came out to Missouri with something to prove.  With a couple bets on the line he showed that he's not playing games. On Saturday Jason Tied for the overall WIN but the third main finish ended up giving him the 2nd place overall for the day. Sunday rolled along and he was still showing the same consistency as the previous day with another 2nd place finish overall.

After a LONG HOT weekend of racing in Blue Springs Missouri we were all ready to Put the Prank Wars behind us and get back home. Of course after we spent an hour driving through St. Louis MO trying to get to the famous ARCH. But all in all the weekend was a great one and Morphine Industries KREW came and did their thing and left their mark on another race. Big props go out to the Blue Springs MO track & the ABA for putting together another great race.

And a Big thanks goes out to our Factory Team Sponsors; Staats Motocross Bicycles (www.staatsbikes.com), Alienation (www.alienationbmx.com), Fly Racing (www.flyracingbmx.com), Lost Energy Drink (www.lostenterprises.com), Tioga (www.tiogausa.com/bmx), Sinz Racing (www.sinz-racing.com), Rennen (www.rennendesigngroup.com)

Month of May complete,

Rennen/Intense takes over

NBL National team points lead!

Hello all.....Mid month we competed in an ABA Factory team event in Atlanta, GA. With a skeleton crew on site we managed a decent 2nd place on Day 1. Austin Loebe handled the 16 expert class, and kept his new white THE Icon seat clean despite the wet conditions. Alex Frey (15 cruiser) and Melissa Woodruff (ladies cruiser) also won their respective classes main events. Rob McAllister ran the clip board and was also a factor in the 41-45 cruiser class with his new arsenal of Rennen gears and cogs. TJ Maniscalchi (11x) used his new Sinz 20 x 1” carbon forks and made his way to the main event both days in one of the weekends largest classes.

That same weekend we conducted a Saturday afternoon clinic in Meriden, CT at Falcon BMX. Our clinic crew put on a great show despite some dreary weather, with riders receiving products or samples from PowerBar, Finish Line and ODI.

Pottstown: Our weekend started with a great Friday afternoon clinic that saw over 20 riders attending. Friday night the track held a 2,500 dollar flat pedal only open class and numerous Rennen/Intense riders participated. Max Egdorf, Shawn Diprete and Pat Parker all transferred through to the semi, the same semi and stumbled over one another trying to get the 4th transfer spot. Not even Parker’s hot Twenty6 flat pedals could get him out of the stacked semi. All three watched teammate Austin Loebe, who made his way out of the other semi, take a second in the main event and take home a $650 pay check.

As for national racing, if it wasn’t for bad luck we wouldn’t have had any luck at all, but still we managed to take the team win on day 2. Day 1’s team sheet died in the second turn as we lost both DiPrete and Parker to the same “Bermuda Triangle” mysterious divot. Hare’s a run down of how your favorite team rider fared.

Shawn Diprete (35-39 expert and cruiser), couldn’t keep it rubber side down on day 1 and crashed in BOTH mains, day 2 was back to normal with 2 main wins. Pat Parker (26-34 expert) couldn’t avoid the divot and laid it down Saturday also. He recovered well, and his micro knobbies held turn two to take the win on day 2. Rochelle Wooding (13 girls and cruiser), won two out of the three classes she entered over the weekend and scored and new pair of Black Fly Talon 2 clip shoes for her next race. Austin Loebe (16x) owned the class with two perfects putting his new silver Thomson seat post and Alienation rims to good use.

Max Egdorf (17-18x) made his Johnson number plate stand out on day 2 as he captured the 17-18x main event win. Ross Wooding (17-24) worked his Morphine bars to capture a main event win on his cruiser, Kelley Kelley wasn’t in Pottstown to do any signing, he was there for business, and he took care of that with two 41 and over expert main event victories! Susie Levan (ladies cruiser) hopped on a new expert model Podium cruiser and took it to a win on day 1. Randy Bitinaitis (40-44 cruiser) was powered by his KMC drop buster chains and scored two wins and some serious old school turn bar kick outs were seen by all who watched him.

Sunday’s win put us atop the NBL’s top tier of team racing with a one point lead over Felt’s NBL Factory team. Our season is far from over though, so there is nothing to celebrate just yet. June will find us at an ABA Factory Team battle in Delaware for the UCI pro race weekend, two weeks later it’s off to Pittsburg, PA for the classic NBL South Park nationals.

Rennen Design Group (www.rennendesigngroup.com) makers of the finest gears, chain rings, cogs and the ultimate training tool “G-Cog”! Intense BMX (www.intensebmx.com) makers of the ultimate racing frames and tires.

Co-sponsored by: Alienation, Black Crown designs, Cane Creek, Delta/Aztec, Finish Line Lubes, FLY, Johnson BMX Plates, KMC, Morphine Industries, ODI, PowerBar, SINZ, THE, Thomson and Twenty6 products. Rennen/Intense Factory Team is a division of Bizzarro BMX Inc.

Factory Felt / SC Action Sports Race Report

Pottstown PA has been a stop on our schedule for three years and has always been a fun time with great racing and beautiful weather. The Factory Felt / SC Action Sports National Team showed up with its "Grom Attack" for the weekend and put on a clinic. First up it was newly signed Vaughn Herrick 9X making the trip up from Conroe TX doing what he knows best and winning class on day#1 and taking a second on day#2. Coleman Habib 10X also made a long trip up from SC to double double for the weekend. Jeremy Smith 11X who has taken some time off this season to pursue motorcross and freestyle BMX came out on Saturday and doubled for the day and then went home to compete in a freestyle BMX comp at the Incline Club and killed it there also.

Brandon Roharick 14X took a third on day#1 and pulled it all together for a win on day#2. Dylan Perez 15X was flying all day on day#1 winning all his motos in class and open and then bad luck struck with a crash in his class main an! d then followed that up with a spectacular crash in open. Dylan was all bandaged up and ready for day#2 and he was on fire again leading the main until the last turn where he was passed by Victor Behm for the win.

On a side note I'd like to recognize Victor Behm for his true sportsmanship during the 14-15 open main Perez and Behm were battling when Perez took a big digger in turn three leaving Behm with an easy coast to the finish line. Instead Behm stopped in the turn to make sure his friend was OK and thus losing the open main event. That kind of sportsmanship is not found in any other sport!

Joey Albright Vet Pro came out for Saturdays racing and was looking great in his main up until the infamous second turn where he caught a pedal and launched him into the pavement. Joey is as tough as nails and got up and walked it off under his own power.

The Felt girls were in attendance with birthday girl McKenna Calhoun 10G taking thirds both days. Alaina Henderson 16G and Carly Veeder 17+G continue to be combined and put on a show for all the fans. Alaina took the wins with Carly in close pursuit.

A a team the Factory Felt ? SC Action Sports team did very well with a win on day#1 88pts and a tie for first on day#2 with 86pts.

We would like to thank all our sponsors FeltBMX.com, SC Action Sports, Alex Rims, THE/Sinz, FlyRacing, Profile Racing and mom and dad for driving me to the track.

Team MBK Were flying high at Euro Rounds 9 & 10

Team MBK Elite Men's riders, Arnaud Dubois (Left) and Pabo Gutierrez.

Last weekend took place the 9th and 10th rounds of the Elite European championship in Dessel (Belgium).

Pablo Gutierrez, who was just coming back from a shoulder injury, is just now getting back to his best level. Pablo finished with a 6th in the semi final the Saturday and reached the main final the Sunday with a good 4th place! He is now at the 21st place at the current ranking with two race missing. The goal of Pablo is to be ready for the end of the year at the worlds!

Arnaud Dubois really wanted to race well in his own country, but unfortunately he had a little bit of bad luck even if he was one of the fastest rider of this weekend! Arnaud was out in 1/8 final the Saturday and reached the final the Sunday but crashed when he was at the 2nd place. So Arnaud finish 8th place. Arnaud is still at the 3rd place of the current European ranking at only 15 point behind the leader! So Arnaud is definitely in the hunt for the Elite European title…

We are proud to tell you that we get 3 MBK carbons frames at the Sunday Elite main final!!!! So we want to congratulate as well Axel Keller (Team MBK/Pays de la Loire) 6th at the Sunday final with his MBK MX540 carbon frame and Magalie Pottier (Team MBK/Pays de la Loire) two time 3rd place in Elite women on her MBK MX525 carbon frame…

Treimanis takes first Elite Win in European Championships!

This weekend rounds 9 & 10 of the European Championships Series 2009 were held in Dessel Belgium. Under the sunny sky the yellow uniforms of the Formula Europe squad were shining brighter than ever. The track was smooth and fast giving us some exciting racing action.

In the Girls 13-14, Lucie Meerholz was improving here riding every lap she was doing, making it to the main on Saturday to finish in 6th. On Sunday, she made the podium taking 3rd place. On Monday, Lucie added another National Title winning the Dutch NFF Championships in Raalte, bringing her total to 9 National titles.

In Men 30+, Nico van Dartel was riding on his home track in Dessel. He made both mains with a 7th and 6th place.

In Junior Men, both Rihards Veide and Niklas Laustsen have recovered from a collarbone injury and together with Max Ganser all 3 Formula Team Members were competing in this Category.

Niklas had some trouble finding his race rhythm, but he showed some flashes of what he is capable of with some good results in the motos. Saturday he finished 6th in the 1/8 final, but Sunday he made it to the semis, but after a less gate he had to settle for the last place.

Rihards made a strong comeback easily transferring to the semis on both days, but didn¹t get further than 6th missing out on the mains. Rihards comment to his race this weekend: "I'm not settling for anything less than a spot in the finals in the last 6 rounds." Max is still struggling with an inconsistent gate and got 5th in the 1/8 finals on Saturday. On Sunday he was in qualifying position in quarter final, but in the last turn he was cut off, eliminating him from the race. Max is 10th position of the current ranking.

Steven Wong and Edzus Treimanis were defending the Formula colors in the Elite Men category.

Steven was riding on his home turf and was eager to show the progress he made in the UCI Training Centre in Aigle. Both days he made in to the semis with some strong first straights. On Saturday he finished 8th and on Sunday he stranded 1 spot away from the main. Steven has returned to the UCICentre in Aigle to prepare for the European Finals and the Worlds in Australia.

Edzus had a strong weekend in Dessel. He was out in front pretty much every lap and qualified for both mains with confidence. Saturday he got stuck on the outside of the first turn and had to chase the rest of the pack finishing in 6th. On Sunday, Edzus took the holeshot from lane 6 and he took a firm 10m lead. He kept his cool and took his first European Elite Men win, putting him in 4th place of the current ranking.

2009 NBL ELITE SERIES CHECKPOINT

FRESNO TRACK AN INSTANT HIT – STUMPY AND POST ON THE MOVE

At what is now considered one of America’s finest and fastest tracks, the NBL All-American Nationals in Fresno, CA may have served as a turning point for Randy Stumpfhauser and Alise Post. Riders were raving about Fresno’s downhill course and as the NBL Elite Series now heads East for two events, the chase for the coveted NBL National Title has tightened up even more.

GHP’s Randy Stumpfhauser used the energy of home track advantage to claw his way closer to the top.  Stumpy, who is still ranked 2nd in the series, took home a huge win on Saturday in front of his hometown fans and may have set the stage for the ultimate battle come Labor Day weekend.  Olympic Gold Medalist, and World Champion, Maris Strombergs of Latvia (Free Agent), settled for 2nd but then stormed back to claim the win on Sunday flanked by Hyper/AT&T’s Donny Robinson and GT’s Mike Day – An all-Olympic podium. Redline/TLD’s Robert de Wilde had a strong showing and has moved up to 3rd overall on the year.

A small, but fast group of Elite Women delighted fans in Fresno. The FBX track featured pro sections on both the 2nd and 3rd straights and they are normally untouched by the women’s class.  Not this time – Fresh off of the UCI Supercross in Denmark, Alise Post was the first female to jump the big 2nd straight followed by Ashley Verhagen and Clayborn’s Brooke Crain.  Formula/Fly’s Dominque Daniels powered her way to 2nd both days and continues to lead the series but Post is closing the gap fast.  Reigning Elite women’s champion, Stephanie Barragan did not compete.

Excalibur/TLD’s Josh Meyers, the only Super-Ex rider to win multiple mains this year, continued on his winning path with a big win on Saturday. Clayborn’s Logan Collins was 2nd ahead of GEICO Powersport’s Matt Kelty in the super-stacked main event.  On Sunday, it was Kelty who took the lead early and was poised for the big win when disaster struck – In the middle of the 3rd straight pro section!  Kelty abandoned ship in the middle of the big doubles, causing everyone to scatter.  The mishap helped earn Collins his first win of the season and once again, turned the tables in the standings.  For Kelty, an injured foot will put him on the sidelines and may jeopardize his chances for the title.  One thing is for sure in Super-Ex these days – nothing is guaranteed and the Grands will be an epic showdown.

In Master’s action, Free Agent’s Dale Holmes and local, Dave Bittner (SE Racing) staged an intense see-saw battle during qualifying but it was Holmes who stole the win from Bittner on Saturday.  Bittner impressed everyone by taking a run at the 3rd straight pro section but didn’t have enough room to pass Holmes in the last turn.  Sunday, like many other Sundays, was a different one and Bittner edged out Holmes after a smooth run through the big pro sets.  The win moved Bittner up in the standings and kept Holmes from earning a perfect 6-for-6 record.  Redline’s Shawn O’Gorman was 3rd both days. Holmes still trails Intense/Dyna-pep’s Tommy Opincar in the standings but has two races in hand.  Tim Dinger continues to cling to third in the series and will look to South Park and Nashville to move up in the rankings.

Next up – The World famous South Park, PA for the NBL Stars n’ Stripes National, June 26-28. NBL will host a Future Stars Rider Clinic on the Friday from 11am-2pm. UGP Opens races are in full effect and the winners of each class will get cool UGP gear.
