Answer/Rennen Rocks R1 In Reno!

By: Robert Klein / Answer Rennen Factory Team

Reno or R1 as it is it often referred to is in the books. This year had a little different feel. The weather wasn’t quite as cold outside as in years past, new team colors are brighter than in years past, and Shawn Diprete wasn’t in our team uniform. (Although he was in our pits all weekend) But one thing remained the same; the competition on the track was amazing. As usual the big teams had their normal 25 man teams staged and ready for the first round of team sheets. Answer/Rennen however had 6 riders total in attendance. There is a story about some guy versus Goliath. I do believe his name was George Costa. George stated at the end of the Grands that he had a newfound energy and desire if you will. Well folks we have awakened the sleeping giant. The off-season additions have already proven to be huge as Jack Kelly put on his new gear got ready on a completely new bike and rode phenomenal along with Samantha Gracey, Tara Klein, Cameron Moore, Derik Bergh, and Brandon Crain all returning from last season gave an enormous effort against all the top riders.

Samantha Gracey 8G finished 3rd both days in mixed open making it through quarters and semis against all the top West Coast girls and 3rd and 4th in class on the weekend.

Tara Klein 9G representing Answer/Rennen on both class and cruiser. Klein ended the weekend with two 3rds on Saturday a third in class on Sunday and a huge win in 10 and under girl cruiser as a 9 year old.

Brandon Crain 10X showed up ready to prove why he is NAG 1. Saturday went off and you could just tell something wasn’t quite right with Crain. Saturday would have to go down as a test day with a little bad luck thrown in for good measure. So some bike adjustments here and a little mental coaching there and Crain straight came for names on Sunday, winning 10 cruiser, and taking a 2nd in 10X against 43 riders.

Jack Kelly 11X scored a 3rd in Open against the older kids and a 2nd in class. Sunday would be much of the same for Kelly as he finished 3rd and 2nd again. Jack is adjusting quite nicely to the new SSquared and team. We are very pleased to have him.

Cameron Moore 16X had much of the same on Saturday. It seemed that bad luck followed all our riders on Saturday and Moore was not exempt. Again when you are NAG 1 it comes with a huge target on your back, or your side in Moore’s case as lap after lap saw someone running into him on Saturday. Like all the Answer/Rennen riders Cameron went to the hotel and slept on it, only to return Sunday and again prove why he is number 1. Cameron would lay the rubber heading into the main event as he and our Sister team Factory Ssquared rider Zinzow put on a lap for the ages. Cameron would end up 2nd on Sunday. After Moore finished his lap you could see the Answer/Rennen pits start to realize what was about to happen.

Before we go there let’s talk about the Iceman Derik Bergh 17-18X. In what is hands down the toughest and deepest talented class in USABMX 17-18X Bergh did what he always does. He put his Answer/Rennen backed bike towards the front of the pack and took a hard fought 2nd place on Saturday. Sunday in the main event after beating out 30 other riders to make it an 8-man gate Bergh clipped in like always, waited for the cadence and BANG! Shot out of the gate like a man possessed, banging bars with 7 other riders all the way through the first turn. As they settle in down the second straight Bergh is in 2nd and in position to make a move for the win, into the last turn he has Townsend on the outside he makes a move but Townsend shuts the door just in time and they finish with Bergh in 2nd place.

So back to that feeling in the Answer/Rennen pits. Team manager George had that smile; you know the one that says, “We did it”! After a tally of the team sheet Answer/Rennen had laid down a huge 244 score. That was good enough to give us a 2nd place in the Factory division on Sunday. Our hats are tipped to Factory Phoenix for scoring a Goliath 250 point team sheet on Sunday and winning the factory division. But I would say that little 6-man team that George brought to slay Goliath did a pretty good job at R1!

We will see you in Louisville. As always we could not do this without the great sponsors that help support our team. ..... www.answerbmx.com ..... www.rennendesigngroup.com ..... www.ssquaredbicycles.com ..... www.time2shinebmx.com ..... www.tiogausa.com ..... www.flyracing.com ..... www.g-cog.com ..... www.g-form.com ..... www.critbmx.com ..... www.pedros.com ..... www.basebrooklyn.net

willoughby, post, becerine & garcia dominate pro weekend in Reno!!!!!!!!!!

CHECK OUT THE SUNDAY/DAY TWO PHOTO GALLERY GO HERE!
ELITE MEN'S PRO ROLLOUT!
Riley Stair / Tangent Sam Willoughby / Redline Tyler Brown / GT Tommy Zula / DK Joey The Bomb / Doublecross Jake Peebles / Motive Power Tory Nyhaug / Redline Sifiso Nhlapo / Chase
AA Pro, Women Pro, Vet Pro & A Pro all doubled up for the weekend! Unreal racing highlighted the weekend at the Silver Dollar National in Reno, Nevada over the weekend, as four pros took the TOP SPOTS in all the pro classes.......Unreal! AA Pro #1 Sam Willoughby set the track on fire and sending a message that he's not taking anything off the throttle after winning the USABMX AA Pro National Title AGAIN!

Alise Post came out with a blazing return to the track by doubling her class that was populated by some pretty heavy hitters. With the likes of GT's young gun, 'Flyin' Felicia Stancil, Belgium's rising star Elke Van Hoof, a superfast lookin' Brooke Crain, and two time Olympian and BMX Legend, Shanaze Reade in the house, it was an Elite Main Event lookin' race and Post put together solid racing to take two wins that HAD to feel good after a very tough 2013 BMX Season for the Redline superstar.

The Women's Pro Class is going to be a VERY exciting class to watch with Shanaze and Elke planning to spend a majority of their racing, running the USABMX National Circuit, AND, the likes of Mariana Pajon and #1 At Everything, Caroline Buchanan dropping in to the mix and you'll have some of the BEST lady pro racing EVER at USABMX Pro Series Races. WOW!

How bout Vet Pro? With a BIG move to Dale Holmes Racing over the holidays after leaving his long time sponsor, Free Agent, Cristian Becerine was absolutely flying in Reno. CB had to do battle with the normal cast of characters, plus an appearance by former AA team mate, 'Dr. J' Jason Richardson and for sure laid claim to the title of "Man To Beat" in the Vet Pro Class for 2014. Tough Break Of The Weekend goes to perennial Vet Pro Powerhouse, Dan's Comp's, Matt Pohlkamp who went down hard with a severely injured hand that looked suspiciously like a fracture, although, that is NOT official. Get healed up quick, Matt!

A Pro class Double Duty was turned in by Supercross's Top Dawg, Jared Garcia. Jared battled 24 gnarly A Pros in Reno, but our feeling is that he won't be in A Pro long after the season really takes off in March, cuz this won't be his last weekend of winning A Pro racing.

All in all, this was an awesome weekend of Pro Series National Racing for USABMX. Now the series takes two months off until the Next Big Race, one of the best......the USABMX Gator Nationals in Oldsmar, Florida! It's gonna be an AWESOME season of Pro Racing, buckle your seat belts, kids, we're TAKING OFF!

BOX To Be Official Sponsor of the GT Factory Team

ANAHEIM, CA—Cycle Group, Inc. (CGI) is pleased to announce that it will be an official sponsor of the GT Factory BMX Team in 2014. This past year, CGI supplied the team unofficially with brakes, cranks and some handlebars and stems.

“It was an honor that GT asked us to be part of their program last year. The team is stacked with many of the world’s top riders and is one of the best-run programs out there. The riders and GT trailer always present a legitimate factory image at the races. I’m really excited that they asked us to be an even bigger part of the program,” said Toby Henderson, founder and executive director of CGI.

Besides the race team bikes, GT currently specs Promax brake levers, brakes and stems on a variety of its high-end complete race bikes, among them the Speed Series and Interceptor lines of bikes.

“We’ve worked really hard the past two years to develop two complete lines of top-notch BMX products—BOX and Promax. We’re really pleased that the product managers at GT recognize our work. We also appreciate the help the team has provided as testers for the BOX Vector cranks,” Henderson said.

GT’s Speed Series frames are one of the few currently available that have a BB30 bottom bracket shell and are compatible with the BOX Vector cranks. BOX and GT worked together to fine tune the innovative cranks and bottom brackets before they go into production this winter.

“The GT Factory BMX team has been involved in the testing of the BOX/Promax components over the past year and the level of quality experienced has exceeded our expectations,” said Steve Spencer, sports marketing manager for GT. “It is an honor to be partnered with Toby and the CGI team and look forward to future successes together,” he added.

The entire Factory GT team will use BOX Vector cranks, Genius/Eclipse brake sets and Phase 1 number plates. The smaller kids also will use BOX X-Series carbon forks and handlebars and Promax cranks. Several of the other riders will use BOX Delta stems with Maximus bars, as well.

The team consists of Mike Day, Tyler Brown, Quentin Caleyron, Felicia Stancil, Sean Gaian, Jordan Miranda, Jonas Harmon, Sophia Foresta, Shan Hatfield, Brooklyn VanRenselaar and Aiden Otten.

Turbo Bike Co. Factory Team Signs, Mic Young!
Turbo Bike Co. would like to welcome Mic Young to the Turbo Bike Co. Factory Team. Mic Young made his debut for Turbo Bike Co. Factory Team at the Nerang International on the sunny Australian Gold Coast last weekend in the 17+ Expert class.

Mic got his new Gloss Black Pro Turbo frame only a couple of days before the big event and had two practice runs on it. He then went out and carved up the 17+ Expert class with a perfect score of all wins on both day one and day two. Mic now leads the National Series in the 17+ expert class.

On Sunday (day 3) Mic stepped it up by jumping straight into the AA-Pro class with 40-50 other pros. He found it tough going early on, but hung in there and worked his way all the way through to the AA-Pro final. In the final Mic started in gate 8 and found it hard to get around a big pack of riders. In the end Mic finished out the weekend with 7th in AA-Pro.

The newest member of the Turbo Factory Team made three finals from three events, and was stoked on his debut for his new team. Mic was quoted as saying, "This is a dream come true, to make a AA-Pro main at Nerang. I have been coming here for a long time riding many different brands of bikes over the years, but to make it on debut for a new team makes it all the more exciting".

Turbo Bike Co. team riders Blake Schofield and Michael "Tiger" Robinson were also in action in the hotly contested elite class. On day one both riders drew the same heat, which made it a bit tougher, having to ride against your own team mate. Both riders were looking strong until they were involved in a crash in turn one which ended their campaign for the day.

Day two of the elite series had the Turbo riders draw different moto heats. Two crashes in three motos blew-out Blake's points and he hit the showers earlier then expected. Michael Robinson was looking stronger today with a moto win and top two finishes in the motos. He got as far as the semi finals where he missed transferring to the final.

On day three Blake hit up the AA-Pro class. He cruised through the motos and quarters, with his day ending when he couldn’t get out of his semi. Blake is fresh off a month long stint racing Pro in the USA and is showing the benefits.

Turbo Bike Co. would like thank our co-sponsors, Thud Racing and Rad Custom Clothing and BMXPress Magazine for the picture of Mic Young #215.

Kory Cook Signs Deal With Factory Promax Team

ANAHEIM, CA — Cycle Group, Inc. (CGI) is excited to announce that Kory Cook has signed a one-year deal with the Promax Factory Team.

“Kory is a well-known and respected member of the BMX community here in Orange County. Every kid knows who he is and many have learned how to ride from him through his clinics at Orange Y. Locally, he’s probably better known than Sam Willoughby or Marc Willers. And as an elite racer he continues to improve. We expect big things from him in the coming years,” said Michael Gamstetter, CGI’s senior brand manager.

CGI launched the Promax Factory Team with Cook and Arielle Martin last July after their sponsor severed their contracts mid-season. At the time, CGI was unsure if the team would last beyond the end of the season. “We were really happy with how things went with the Promax riders last year. Arielle finished her career on a high note and Kory continued to show he can ride with the fastest elites by making the mains on Saturday at Grands,” Gamstetter added.

Kory had this to say about his new deal, "It is an honor to sign with such a great company. There's no better feeling than having the best possible components on my bike while competing.
