Motorcycle handlebar diameter question!?

Posted at: 2015-04-14
I'm looking into getting new handlebars for my motorcycle. How much of a difference would 7/8 inches in diameter compared to 1 inch handlebars be? Does it even matter or will either fit the clamp on my motorcycle? (I believe I have 7/8th on there now).

My motorcycle is a 1980 Yamaha Maxim xj650g.

Thanks!

Handlebars are sort of an important thing don't you think. Why would you install 1" bars when the bike has 7/8" bars and take a chance. Makes no sense at all even if someone tells you they will fit. Install the exact same size that the bike was designed for,

7/8 to 1 inch will require:

New throttle.

New switches.

New brake lever/master cylinder.

New clutch lever.

New mounting clamps.

New grips.

Or, just use the right size bar.

7/8" that's the diameter so unless you change out the mounting clamps you'd be at a loss with 1".

You can make anything work just how much money do you have to spend on it? .Watch the guys on the discovery channel they do it every week. Bigger bars are just style points and you are right 7/8 will be better and cheaper.

A pointless mod, imo.

won't WORK.
