Strider Sports And USA BMX Team Up To Run Strider World Cup Races

Balance Bike Races For Kids Will Take To The Track At 2012 USA BMX Nationals

Rapid City, SD (December 26, 2011) — Strider Sports is proud to announce a new partnership with USA BMX for the 2012 National Series, putting Strider World Cup racing at every USA BMX National event during the upcoming season. Strider World Cup racing made an incredible debut at the Grand Nationals held last month, and will continue to provide toddlers and young children a venue for friendly competition at every 2012 USA BMX National.

Strider No-Pedal Balance Bikes are designed to be the first step in teaching children how to ride a bike. The popular Strider World Cup races are held on portions of the BMX track and often on smaller specially-constructed tracks. They give children ages two to five the opportunity to take their riding to the next level — from balancing to racing on two wheels! Additionally, a Strider Adventure Zone will give kids a place to ride their Striders and have fun at each race.

USA BMX Strider memberships are available for $25. The membership includes the racer’s first Strider World Cup race and a USA BMX membership card. Participating in a race at any USA BMX National will qualify the racer for the Strider World Championship in Florida at Sarasota BMX next fall.

"The Strider bike is a great learning tool and an awesome first bike for kids," says BA Anderson, USA BMX CEO. "Incorporating Strider World Cup races into our series is a great way to get siblings of current racers or young children started on the track. We are excited to have Strider on board as a National Series sponsor and look forward to having Strider races at our events."

Ryan McFarland, founder of Strider Sports International, says, “We think USA BMX is the perfect fit for our Strider World Cup races. After witnessing the passion and camaraderie exhibited by BMX racers at the Grand Nationals last month, I am honored to bring Strider into the USA BMX family. We have the same enthusiasm for racing at Strider and can’t wait to share the Strider experience all season long!”

Check out Strider’s YouTube page to see the little groms racing their hearts out at the Grand Nationals.

Track Operator, Alan Mazuti tells us that Santa was pretty impressed with the radness going on at the annual Christmas Potluck Dinner and Race!

The Christmas Potluck race has become an annual event with Santa Claus making a surprise visit to Peninsula Indoor. Santa passed out gifts in the form of special Santa Trophies courtesy of Dyekman Trophies and then hung around for pictures afterward.

USA Cycling debuts BMX Coaching Certification Program for 2012

Colorado Springs, Colo. (December 21, 2011) -- USA Cycling is excited to announce the start of its BMX Coaching Certification program in 2012. The program’s goals include increasing the knowledge of BMX coaches in the United States and developing a community of coaches to share ideas on the training and preparation of current and future BMX racers.

"Launching our USA Cycling BMX-specific coaching program follows a long-term vision we have to help develop BMX riders as well as develop the sport similar to our foreign competitors,” explained USA Cycling’s BMX Program Director Mike King. The U.S. represents half the world in terms of global BMX participation and by providing better coaching opportunities we feel this will translate into smarter athletes in our development pathway. In addition, it will help legitimize BMX and create membership retention at the local level which will grow the sport."

“We are very excited to partner with USA Cycling to offer coaching certification and look forward to the day that all BMX racers will have access to a trained and certified coach,” said CEO of the American Bicycle Association, B.A. Anderson. “The sport has so many qualified coaches already and this certification process will just further solidify that a coach is necessary to reach the highest level.”

The program has two levels of certification. The first level, Level A, will be a home-study, self-paced study course. USA Cycling has created a manual, Introduction to BMX Coaching, to serve as the main resource for the course. In order to become a Level A certified coach, the applicant must score 80% or better on the exam. The exam is also self-paced and home-study. The cost of the manual will be $35 and includes shipping via USPS.

The second level of certification, AA, will require attendance at a USA Cycling Level AA coaching clinic. The clinic agenda will include training plan design, basic bike skills, introduction to strength training, and other related topics. The first Level AA clinic will be held at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, CA February 17-19, 2012. A written exam will also be required to become a Level AA coach. Anyone is eligible to attend this first clinic; however, in the future attendees will be required to be a level A coach before he or she can register for a AA clinic. Registration is available through your “My USA Cycling” page under VIEW AVAILABLE CLINICS.

In addition to passing the exam, all applicants will be required to “pass” a criminal background check and pay an annual fee ($85 for 2012).

Factory Crupi wins 2011 aba BMX Team Title!

Baldwin Park, California – Crupi Parts, Inc is proud to announce that our US Factory Team has won the #1 Factory Team Title for 2011. This is the biggest honor a Factory Team can achieve each year and to take this win, the Team had to battle against the best riders and other teams in our industry including Redman and Intense!

It takes so much to make a successful team and to be #1 takes even more. I believe that the importance of having a Factory Team on the track at National races across the country is HUGE as it shows that anyone can race and win on our products and our #1 Factory Team Title proves this!

I just love racing and the excitement of having my team out on the track representing my brand makes it truly fun for me. But none of this would be possible without the effort of each and every member of our Team. First and foremost, I would like to thank our Team Manager Jesse Vargas. Jesse is a true champion in every way. Jesse was the team manager of the #1 Bike Shop team in 2009, then he left that team to come over to Crupi and try his best at winning a Factory Team title. In just 2 years, he accomplished just that and without Jesse's hard work, knowledge of how to run a successful team and the numerous hours he puts in to make the team and our pit area the best it can be, we would not be where we are. Jesse, thank you and congrats on your 2nd Team Title!

Here are the members of the 2011 US Crupi Factory Team that made this win possible.

Nick Adams - 9X

Anna Johnson - 11Girls

Collin Whittington - 12X

Alexis Vitale - 12Girls

Myles Wamsley - 13X

Julian Vargas - 13X

Collin Hudson - 14X (2011 2x World #1, NAG #1 and Am#2) What a year!

Justin Anderson - 15X (2011 NAG #2 and AM#12)

Josh Klatman - 19-27X (2011 NAG #1 and repeats as Am#1)

Dave Archibald - 41-45Cruiser (NAG #2 and Am#8)

Tyler Brown - Elite Men

Congratulations to you all; a well deserved victory! Thank you.

Greg Swingrover ... Owner/President - Crupi Parts, Inc.

Fisher Outdoor and Shiner Distribution are pleased to present “REDLINE TROY LEE RACING”

Shiner’s Redline Racing team has dominated the UK BMX racing scene for several seasons. Troy Lee Designs have been at the forefront of Helmet and Race kit design for 30 years. For the first time 2012 will see Redline Racing and Troy Lee Designs joining forces to form a formidable force on the UK and International race scene.

Troy Lee Designs first teamed up with Redline racing rider and Junior Men British champion Jacob Roberts for the 2011 race season.  From this initial relationship a vision between Team manager Jai Kemp and Fisher Brand Manager Adam Dayson was formed to partner up for the 2012 season and to create for the first time ‘Redline Troy Lee Racing’, a truly first class and premium BMX team that approaches BMX racing with a ‘factory team’ ethos.

For the race season ahead the team will be riding top of the range 2012 Redline Flight series frames equipped with Answer Scythe pro carbon forks, Tioga tyres and Shimano DXR cranks. Kitted head to toe in Troy Lee Designs, the team will be wearing customised GP speed shop Jerseys and Pants, topped off with the all new D3 Palmer Helmet. Protection is being provided from Troy Lee’s latest Shock Doctor Pads and off the track the team will be wearing clothing from the Troy Lee casual range.

Troy Lee Brand Manager Jon Sangan said ‘ Troy Lee Designs has a long and celebrated history in BMX racing, the D2 Helmet has been the choice of pro racers for years and more recently the D3 has given BMXers the ultimate in both protection and design. Redline is a fantastic brand and has an equally rich legacy in BMX racing. We are not only excited but proud to be joining forces for 2012. With the UK hosting both the Olympics and the World BMX championships in 2012 there couldn’t be a better time to launch the Redline Troy Lee Racing team’.

Jai Kemp has been the Redline Team Manager for the past 5 years and will continue to manage the new Redline Troy Lee Racing team for 2012 ‘I have seen the team grow from strength to strength over the past 5 years” he said, ‘we have always had the best bikes to ride through Redline and for 2012 the team will have the best race kit on the market too. This is an exciting time for Redline racing, we have a new team for 2012 and with Troy Lee Designs on board I believe we are set for success in 2012’.

Since BMX racing’s incorporation in to the Olympics in 2008 the sport has seen a boom in its appeal. BMX tracks and Local clubs are being set up all over the UK and with 500+ national level competitors; the sport has not had such a wide appeal since the 1980s.

The Pro Spectacular on Saturday night featured the Matt & Javier show again in Vet Pro with Matt winning one main and Javier the other 2 for the overall win on Saturday.   Matt’s second place finish was enough to capture the 2011 Vet Pro Title. Congrats to Matt!  Every race in this class is always so much fun to watch and the competition is fierce with so many talented guys.

Besides the excitement of determining all of the Pro titles, the bragging rights for the Amateurs in the NAG 5 challenge is one of the most anticipated races of the weekend.   Justin Posey had his sights set on winning this race since early in the year.   Congratulations Justin, you worked hard for that one.  Not to be outdone by his older teammates, Alden Volle came up the big winner in the pit bike race and had all of the riders wondering how he was still pedaling as that was one long track!

Sunday’s races, as always, lived up to the hype with the most amazing and competitive racing at the Greatest Race on Earth.  When the day was over Dan’s had 2 more titles to add to their amazing year as Scott Moreland won the 41 and over expert main and the title and Justin Posey had to settle for a 2 behind his good friend & ultra tough competitor Jared Garcia, but had the points to win the 17-18X title.  Alden was on fire all weekend but had tough luck in his semi for class but rode solidly in the 15-16 open.  Alden has been spending a lot of time racing motorcycles with great success and still manages to be a tough competitor in the talented 15x class.

Weston Pope was still on the injured list from his spleen injury at the Disney race, but he helped out the team as coach, water boy and overall supporter of Dan’s Competition and his racing buddies.  Weston was having a great year with solid performances in London & Chula SX races until he was injured.  Look for big things to come from him.

The boys in green would like to send out a HUGE thanks to Dan’s Competition for all of the support and great times in 2011. It was great to share our big weekend with all of the guys.  Be sure and check them out for all of your BMX needs @ danscomp.com.

We would also like to thank our sponsors for all of the help and confidence in us. Fly racing, Diamondback,  Supercross, GHP, Ssquared,  Answer BMX, Alienation, Tangent, Speedline, and Maxxis .

USA Cycling adds collegiate category to BMX National Championships

Colorado Springs, Colo. (Dec. 16, 2011) -- USA Cycling is pleased to announce the addition of a collegiate category at its 2012 USA Cycling BMX National Championships. The event, scheduled for April 1 in Chula Vista, Calif., will take place on a traditional BMX track and will be held in conjunction with the UCI BMX Supercross event the two days prior.

“Since the addition of a collegiate category to the Cyclo-cross National Championships in 1996, collegiate cyclists have been able to compete for national titles in each cycling discipline except for BMX,” explained USA Cycling’s Managing Director of National Events, Micah Rice. “Now, with a collegiate category at BMX Nationals, student athletes will compete for their schools in all five disciplines of the sport.”

“College scholarships for BMX racers have always been a dream for our sport,” commented American Bicycle Association CEO, Bernard Anderson. “With the addition of collegiate BMX racing, we are one step closer to seeing BMX scholarships become reality. These are exciting times for the sport of BMX and this is just one more thing for BMX racers to aspire to.”

In order to participate in the collegiate category at the USA Cycling BMX National Championships, an athlete must be a full-time student.

USA Cycling will publish more details as they become available.

Questions can be directed to USA Cycling High School and Collegiate Program Manager, Jeffrey Hansen at jhansen@usacycling.org.

J&R Bicycles-Speed Bicycles

Year End Team Report

The J&R-Speed team had an incredible season thanks to the support of our parents, riders, and great sponsors.  It is truly a group effort to make it all happen.  Every rider on the team made contributions to help win over 20 nationals during the year, including the Grands.

After the dust settled at the biggest Grands ever, the team wins back-to-back titles, and earns nineteen NAG plates, including four #1 plates.  Bryce Batten retains his #1 plates in class and cruiser, Lauren Whisler wins the 16g title, and Katin Mitchell earns the 8 & under #1 cruiser plate.  Leinani Peralta wins the Grands in 9 girls, finishing NAG #2 for the year.  Kyle Mitchell, Levi Pope, Tristan Mitchell, Rachel Mydock, Austin Fowble, Geoffrey Banser, Zachary Van Kammen, and K.J. Romero all make their makes mains in some tough classes.  Congrats to all!

The 2012 season will bring a few changes to the team, especially from our Pro riders.  Nick Tuttle, Jason Morris, and Matt Rubeck will step aside to allow a few new riders to join the team.  Thanks for the contributions over the years, including some memorable nationals and road trips!  This will give Austin Fowble a try at the A Pro ranks after his birthday in April.  Some great new additions to the team include veteran SoCal rider Michael Weatherford (NAG #2, 28-35x), Kamren Larsen (NAG #3, 12x), and Texan Hunter Pelham (NAG #1, 15x).

THE Cycle Group Gets Ready to Open Doors with Three Industry Veterans

FULLERTON, CA—Following the November announcement of his new company, THE Cycle Group, Inc., Toby Henderson hired his first employees and chose the location of the company’s new offices. Joining Toby are Michelle Enriquez and Michael Gamstetter.

Michelle worked with Toby in the sales department at VSI Products for five years, most recently holding the position of Sales Manager. At THE Cycle Group, she will be Vice President of Operations.

Michael joined VSI in June 2010 as marketing manager. While there, he also played a role in design and product development. As Senior Brand Manager at THE Cycle Group, he will work with Toby designing and developing new product for BOX Components and Promax.

Toby plans to locate the company in Fullerton, California, in Orange County. The hip city has a long association with cycling and the bicycle industry. Fullerton also is home to Fullerton Bikes and the famous Fullerton Loop mountain bike trial. Pioneering BMX brands Torker and Max were headquartered there 1978 through 1984. The building Toby has selected is just yards from where he started T.H.E. Industries.

The day Michelle and Michael started work, temporarily taking up quarters in Toby’s dining room, DHL delivered BOX Components’ first prototypes—four BMX brake levers. Many more innovative high-end BOX Components and Promax BMX parts are in the works.

Box will make its public debut at the Silver Dollar Nationals in Reno January 13. There, ABA National Number One Pro Marc Willers will start the season riding for BOX Components.

FREE AGENT/ROCKSTAR PICKS UP DAVID HERMAN!

Looks like Dale Holmes and the Free Agent Christmas Elves have been busy, Free Agent / Rockstar has just signed David Herman for 2012.

According to Team Manager, Dale, "We've got a lot in store for the Olympic year ahead both domestically and abroad and remain confident David Herman's addition to our team will be integral to our success"

If you're a Free Agent fan, we're not sure exactly what to tell you about the fate of long time Free Agent/Rockstar Factory Pros, Kyle Bennett and Cristian Becerine, cuz, usually, when a rider of David Herman's capabilities gets hired someone 'may' be on the Cut Sheet.

David has had a good year, with being the most productive "Main Maker" for Team USA on the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup circuit. He made 3 of the 4 finals on the UCI SX circuit with a BIG 3rd Place finish at the series final on his home track in Chula Vista, California.

Stay tuned for more, as, according to Free Agent/Rockstar, a full team line-up and sponsor listing will be out soon.

2011 Comes Up Huge For Canadian Bike Supply!

Canadian Bike Supply has wrapped up another great season in 2011!

CBS has been an official vendor at the Canadian National Series the past 5 years and really turned up the heat with the team this season.

A huge addition was added with ex-Canadian Olympian Scott 'Big Easy' Erwood returning after a few seasons away from the sport.

Scott came in and dominated the Pro class winning the past four Nationals back to back on route to a #1 Canadian Pro Title.

The team followed suit taking the #1 ABA 2011 Canadian Bike Shop Team title.

CBS/Hyper had a very solid lineup in 2011 with some real stand-up performances.

Isla Hutton in 9 girls and Zoe Nygaard in 10 Girls and 10 and under Cruiser dominated this season and finished with strong wins at the Canadian Grands.

Look for another few girl CBS riders stand out in 2012. In the CBS 'veteran' Class Jeff Ingram in 41-45 cruiser and Jack Hutton in 46-50 cruiser were regulars on the podium.

In the always tough 13X and Cruiser class Spencer Schmidt had a great season and CBS is looking for him to have a very strong 2012 season as is Lenny 'Sarge' Kilgour who came off injury to take 1st at the Grands in the 28-35 Expert Class.

Special thanks goes out to Team Manager/Owner Julie Wylie for somehow managing to run the store and the team all season long.

Also to some great sponsor's in Hyper, Fly, Good4U Nutritional Drink, Atac Sportwear and Armaguard.

Cycling fans to enjoy more live coverage of Australian BMX Race action

Australian fans will enjoy even more cycling action after an expansion of the broadcast agreement between Cycling Australia and the Special Broadcasting Service (SBS).

SBS already provides extensive coverage of international cycling and highlights coverage of the major domestic calendar events. However in 2012 SBS will air live coverage of the elite men's road race at the Mars Cycling Australia Road National Championships in Buninyong plus all the action of the weekend's racing at the Cycling Australia Track National Championships in Adelaide.

The agreement will also see expanded coverage of the BMX Australia National Championships and the Mountain Bike Nationals.

Cycling Australia CEO, Graham Fredericks, says the agreement reinforces the role of SBS in the development of cycling in Australia.

"SBS has been our broadcast partner for close to a decade and in that time has introduced cycling to a wider audience and helped us showcase the amazing talent we have in this country," said Mr Fredericks. "They have brought the performances of our international stars into Australian homes and supported the emerging talent racing in our domestic events.

"There is no more fierce contest than the one to claim the title of Australian champion and we're pretty excited that Australian sports fans will now have the chance to witness the racing as it happens."

Mountain bike and BMX events will also benefit from increased coverage.

"The deal will deliver a full mix of boards, bitumen and dirt action for all cycling fans," said Mr Fredericks.

SBS Television Head of Sport, Ken Shipp, says the agreement further strengthens the network's relationship with cycling.

"Cycling is a big priority for SBS and the sport enjoys a high profile that is the envy of other sporting codes," said Mr Shipp. "It has always been our aim to broadcast the Mars Cycling Australia Road National Championships live and on free-to-air and I'm proud that we have finally achieved that goal."
